As a Relationship Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the branch’s performance — driving new business, deepening existing relationships, safeguarding portfolio quality and elevating the end-to-end customer experience. This is a hands-on role for a banker who enjoys accountability, thrives in a regulated environment, and is energised by both origination and disciplined credit management. The Opportunity You will manage a defined portfolio of Commercial & SME clients while actively acquiring new relationships. Success in this role will come from balancing commercial growth with robust risk management, ensuring clients receive a high-quality experience that aligns with regulatory expectations and internal standards. What You’ll Be Driving 1. Relationship & Portfolio Management • Manage and grow a portfolio of business clients through proactive engagement, regular meetings and effective needs analysis, • Identify new lending, deposit and cross-sell opportunities (e.g., trade finance, treasury, digital services), • Act as a trusted advisor to business owners, finance directors and key decision-makers, • Ensure high-quality customer experience throughout onboarding, review cycles and servicing 2. New Business Development • Build a healthy pipeline of Commercial & SME prospects across the local and wider London market, • Lead customer appointments, pitch facilities and negotiate commercial terms, • Represent the bank in the business community, raising local market visibility 3. Credit & Risk Discipline • Prepare high-quality credit applications with strong financial analysis and clear risk mitigation, • Monitor early warning indicators to maintain strong portfolio health, • Manage renewals, reviews and compliance requirements within expected timelines, • Champion strong conduct, governance and regulatory awareness 4. Branch & Internal Collaboration • Work closely with credit, operations and other business units to ensure smooth, timely customer outcomes, • Support the branch leadership team with commercial insights, MI and market feedback, • Contribute to internal projects, process improvements and team initiatives What You’ll Bring • Experience in Commercial / SME relationship management within banking, • Strong credit-writing capability and confidence handling financially complex cases, • A proactive approach to new business development, • Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills, • Sound understanding of FCA/PRA expectations, customer fairness principles and compliance standards, • A collaborative mindset, disciplined diary management and comfort working in a structured environment Why This Role Matters This is a relationship-led bank with the capital strength, customer loyalty and governance foundations to grow sustainably.
