Carry out composite fabrication activities including hand lay-up, wet lamination, and vacuum infusion. Use a range of hand tools and basic power tools safely and effectively to trim, drill, fit, and finish components. Assemble composite components and sub-assemblies in accordance with engineering drawings and work instructions. Prepare composite surfaces for painting or coating, including sanding, filling, masking, and cleaning to specified standards. Ensure production targets are achieved without compromising quality or safety. Maintain strict adherence to health, safety, environmental, and quality management systems. Identify and minimise material waste through efficient working practices. Maintain a clean, organised, and controlled manufacturing environment. Accurately record work completed to ensure full traceability and compliance with quality requirements. Support continuous improvement initiatives within the fabrication process.Qualifications & Skills Previous experience in composite fabrication is preferred, with a strong emphasis on lamination and vacuum infusion. Sound understanding of composite materials, resins, reinforcements, and consumables. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, laminate schedules, and technical documentation. Competent in the use of hand tools, trimming tools, and measuring equipment. Experience working to tight tolerances and high-quality workmanship standards. Familiarity with controlled manufacturing environments and quality systems. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities. Good time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively in a production environment. Key Responsibilities: Operational Leadership: • Accountable for team’s output and achievement of production and quality targets. Health, Safety, Quality & Compliance: • Ensure that team members work safely and demonstrate a consistent, high level of compliance with, and understanding of, the relevant H&S policies, procedures and practises for their role and area of work., • Responsible for training and awareness of operating procedures, risk assessment, safety audits, PPE adherence, incident, and accident reporting., • Ensure that team consistently produces work that meets the expected standards of quality as set out in the company’s Quality Management System and Quality Procedure Index. This includes, but is not limited to, team members being suitably trained and following defined quality standards and procedures, using the most up to date versions., • Have understanding, and maintaining standards of, set-up verification, dimensional check sheets, scrap and root cause analysis, drive and manage scrap reduction and actions to improve quality., • Ensure that the team complies with shift patterns, break and lunch times, timekeeping, time-off requests etc and all people-oriented admin is completed in a timely and accurate fashion, • Take a lead in People-oriented processes – leading investigations, disciplinary and grievance matters, quality, and scrap issues. Seek support and guidance from HR as required., • The Quality Procedure Index is used to track and evaluate the effectiveness of the company’s quality management processes within our QMS framework. It is used to assess the overall quality of our products, service, and processes, and help identify areas for improvement., • The Team Leader is responsible and accountable for ensuring compliance with Company procedures as set out in both the Quality Management System and Quality Procedure Index. Essential Experience, Knowledge & Candidate Attributes Required: Demonstrable experience of leading, engaging and developing a high performing team to achieve business results, e.g. a range of weekly/daily productivity & quality KPIs gained from a Machine Tool / Precision Engineering background. A self-starter with a strong sense of urgency who uses sound judgement to make data-driven decisions and set priorities. Experience of managing and ensuring compliance to H&S policies and procedures. Experience using problem-solving techniques to drive real-world improvements. (5 Whys, 8D’s etc), coupled with experience of implementing and leading Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement activity. Excellent interpersonal skills. Qualified (or willing to train) in IOSH Managing Safely. Ability to use sound judgment and decisions based on available information.
