We are looking for a support worker / Carer to join the team around a 17 year old severely autistic & epileptic teenager with additional health needs. He lives at home with his loving family. He has 24 hour 1:1 support and for some activities 2:1 (like visiting the pool, special needs bike club, visiting the park or visiting shops and cafes). About the Teen: He is a friendly, non verbal, very autistic boy with severe epilepsy, a movement disorder and additional health needs. he is non verbal and can walk only with support. He needs help with all elements of his daily life. He does like to be active (but not in an athletic way) and he loves to be entertained. But he also often also needs a lot of care as he can have seizures which lead to him needing to spend time in hospital. His team of support workers / carers help him with his daily life & routine which includes supporting and facilitating access to activities and community, help him with learning more self help skills and communication, all of his personal care, help with his laundry and keep his environment clean & tidy. About you: This job will suit someone with good experience supporting a young person with disability and autism and has a real interest in disability and autism. You are not afraid to learn care elements like catheterisation and dealing with PEG and Peristeen (ideally you have experience already and other elements of care - otherwise we train you). But this is not just about care but also very much about support and we would like to find someone who can be active, fun and shows initiative. You need to be following the behaviour plan which would explain to you. This could potentially suit a student of a related field as a part time position (but a full time position is also available). You need to be able to swim - this is important to him. Ideally you are a non-smoker / non vaper. You are open to work some weekends and some bank holidays (shared with the team) Both day and night shifts are available and we would prefer applicants who are open to both day and night shifts. Ideally you would be willing to commit for a minimum of 12 months or more. This is a job that could be very fulfilling and is well paid but it is also complex and would be difficult for someone who has no experience with disability. You will be provided with regular training on his health and care needs which include seizure management, catheterisation and peg management and behavioural support. About the Job: Hourly rate £15 p/h and which rises to £16 after 6 months of probation. Part time position - minimum of 24 hours +. (unfortunately 20 hours is not enough for this position). As a cleaner, you will ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students and staff. Key Responsibilities: - Clean and maintain student bedrooms, common areas, and shared kitchens. - Clean toilets, urinals, hand basins, sinks, etc. - Disinfect surfaces, door handles, and other frequently touched areas. - Perform general cleaning duties such as sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, mopping, sanitising and polish floors as required. - Report any maintenance issues or damages to supervisors. - Ensure waste is disposed of properly and recycling is maintained. - Follow health and safety regulations at all times. Key Responsibilities Student Welfare and Support: Act as the primary point of contact for students, providing emotional and practical support. Complete all required school forms. Monitor the mailbox daily and inform parents of any relevant updates. Coordinate with our team to arrange tutoring and ensure the student has the correct link for lessons. Assist students in purchasing school uniforms and making any necessary purchases online. Ensure students' physical and mental well-being, addressing any issues that may arise. Assist with settling into the UK, including cultural acclimatization, local orientation, and understanding school routines. Communication and Liaison: Maintain regular communication with parents, updating them on their child's academic progress, well-being, and any concerns. Liaise with school staff, including housemasters/mistresses, tutors, and teachers, to monitor students' academic performance and behavior. Attend parent-teacher meetings (online), school events (occasionally), and other relevant appointments on behalf of parents if they are unable to attend. Academic Monitoring: Monitor students' academic progress by keeping in touch with schoolteachers and checking reports, ensuring they are on track with their studies and receiving necessary support. Arrange additional tutoring or academic assistance if required. Emergency and Crisis Management: Be available to respond to emergencies, such as health issues or disciplinary matters, ensuring appropriate action is taken promptly. Coordinate with medical professionals and schools in case of illness or injury, ensuring students receive proper care. Travel and Accommodation Support: Assist with travel arrangements during term breaks ,and if necessary weekends, including booking flights and organizing transport. Help arrange suitable accommodation during holidays, whether it be a homestay, staying with family, or supervised accommodations. Legal and Administrative Support: Assist students with opening bank accounts and obtaining their BRP card. Monitor visa status and ensure all necessary legal requirements, such as visa and immigration status, are up to date. Communicate with relevant team members if visa updates are needed and assist with the process. Assist with administrative tasks, such as registering with a GP and keeping in touch with the medical center when needed. Qualifications and Skills Knowledge of Russian and English is a must. Previous experience working with children or young adults, preferably in an educational or guardianship role. Strong understanding of the UK education system. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion and empathy. Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and prioritize tasks. Availability to travel for emergency reasons is essential.
