Job DescriptionJob Title: Grinder/Shop Labor Job Description A large manufacturer of pipes, valves, and flanges (PVF) is seeking a dedicated shop helper for their cut shop. The role involves performing large-scale grinding using a 15lb grind wheel to bevel edges of substantial flanges, pipes, and elbows. It requires significant physical effort and involves assisting with material handling around the machine shop, potentially using a forklift or overhead crane. The position also includes general duties such as cleaning up shavings, sweeping, housekeeping, and providing machining assistance. Responsibilities • Perform large-scale grinding and beveling of pipes, flanges, and elbows using a 15lb grind wheel., • Assist in moving materials around the machine shop, possibly using a forklift or overhead crane., • Support machinists with various tasks and general machining assistance., • Maintain cleanliness by sweeping and cleaning up shavings., • Engage in housekeeping activities and other general labor tasks.Essential Skills, • Experience in large grinding operations., • Previous experience in manufacturing., • Experience as a shop helper., • Proficiency in material handling of heavy fabricated materials.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience with pipes, valves, or flanges., • Familiarity with part numbers., • Bilingual in English and Spanish., • Experience with sit-down forklifts., • Knowledge of inventory management, shipping, and receiving.Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is set in a large, older manufacturing shop that has been renovated. The facility includes a shipping area, receiving area, and a vast machining shop equipped with overhead and jib cranes at every station due to the large size of parts. The environment is a loud, open-air machine shop, not climate-controlled, but with large fans to circulate air. The 'Blue Shop,' also known as the Cut Shop, is adjacent to the machine shop. The team is diverse, with communication in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese. The day shift hosts around 40 machinists (90% CNC, 10% manual) and 10 to 15 forklift drivers, while the night shift is being expanded. Safety gear such as steel toes, jeans, work shirts, and safety glasses are mandatory. The first shift runs from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, and the second shift from 4:00 pm to 1:00 am, with potential weekend work depending on production needs. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $19.00/hr.
