Summary: The ARC (Animal Recovery Center) facility is dedicated to the recovery and rehabilitation of victims of cruelty and neglect admitted through NYPD and the ASPCA’s Humane Law Enforcement (HLE) and Community Engagement (CE) programs. Our dedicated team of more than 45 sheltering, medical, and animal behavior professionals work closely with the ASPCA Animal Hospital, Forensics, Legal Advocacy and Investigations, Behavioral Sciences, Shelter Medicine Services, Community Engagement, Placement, and the Adoption Center teams to ensure coordinated response and operations, and holistic, balanced, high quality care for the animals we serve. The Licensed Veterinary Technician at the ASPCA Animal Recovery Center (ARC) is responsible for a broad range of medical and administrative tasks in ARC that serves animals admitted through the NYPD Partnership program. The LVT delivers compassionate nursing care and has a broad knowledge of animal science, medicine, and husbandry, including a basic knowledge of pharmacology, shelter medicine, behavior, and proficient mathematical skills. One of the most critical functions of this role is serving as a member of a team of medical, behavior and sheltering operations personnel, all dedicated to working together to provide holistic care for victims of cruelty and neglect. The schedule is Sundays-Wednesdays from 9a-7p. Summary: The ARC (Animal Recovery Center) and CARE (Canine Annex for Recovery and Enrichment) facilities are dedicated to the recovery and rehabilitation of victims of cruelty and neglect admitted through NYPD and the ASPCA’s Humane Law Enforcement (HLE) and Community Engagement (CE) programs. Our dedicated team of more than 45 sheltering, medical, and animal behavior professionals work closely with the ASPCA Animal Hospital, Forensics, Legal Advocacy and Investigations, Behavioral Sciences, Shelter Medicine Services, Community Engagement, Placement, and the Adoption Center teams to ensure coordinated response and operations, and holistic, balanced, high quality care for the animals we serve. The Licensed Veterinary Technician at the ASPCA Canine Annex for Recovery and Enrichment (CARE) is responsible for a broad range of medical and administrative tasks in the CARE that serves animals admitted through the NYPD Partnership program. The LVT delivers compassionate nursing care and has a broad knowledge of animal science, medicine, and husbandry, including a basic knowledge of pharmacology, shelter medicine, behavior, and proficient mathematical skills. Summary: The ASPCA Animal Hospital (AAH) is designed to provide life-saving care and relieve suffering for animal victims of cruelty and neglect who come to us through internal partners (our own ASPCA adoption center, kitten nursery, and community advocate team) and external partners (NYPD and other NYC organizations). Additionally, we provide subsidized care exclusively for animals whose owners are experiencing financial challenges and could not otherwise afford medical care for their pet. Job Description SUMMARY The Veterinary Technician’s primary role is to support and assist the doctors of the hospital. The Veterinary Technician will begin the physical examination and continue to assist the doctor throughout the examination, diagnosis and treatment phases of the pet’s visit. Vet Techs will also interact closely with client’s communicating; general information, home care and other information in regards to the pet’s care. The Surgery Patient Care Assistant (PCA) provides advanced veterinary assistance to the Doctors and Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVTs) within the Surgery Department. This position supports surgical preparation and case flow by performing both patient-facing and technical support duties, ensuring surgical procedures proceed efficiently and safely. Who this position is right for: • Experienced veterinary assistants looking to further their knowledge base and skillset, • Pre-Veterinary and Veterinary Technician students who want to work and learn alongside veterinarians and technicians that are in the top of their fields while getting hands on patient experienceResponsibilities:, • Ability to take notes while in exam rooms with veterinarians and clients, • Ability to Master AMC Veterinary Assistant skills Levels I-IV, • Ability to cross reference medical record systems and follow treatment plans, • Specialized handling and restraint of painful, debilitated, and compensated patients of all species, • Perform treatments as pertains to a NYS non-licensed technician, • Assist in patient monitoring, supportive therapies, treatments, and procedures related to the department, • Monitor patients' vital signs using multiparameter monitoring equipment, • Recognize changes in patients' status & react appropriately, • Attend DVM and LVT rounds, fundamental to understanding patient's disease processes, • Provide safe and effective restraint and handling of small animal patients in a surgical setting., • Assist in surgical supportive therapy, including patient preparation (clip/scrub), positioning, and transfer to/from surgical suites., • Assist with setup of surgical procedures, including orthopedic, soft tissue, and minimally invasive procedures (laparoscopy, thoracoscopy, upper airway scopingendoscopy, cystoscopy, arthroscopy)., • Aid in operation, troubleshooting, cleaning, and maintenance of surgical equipment (including minimally invasive equipment in the ORs and prep, suction, and cautery units)., • Support diagnostic imaging needs, including positioning and image acquisition for radiographs and fluoroscopy (preferred)., • Take basic patient vitals (TPR, weight) and perform pre-operative assessments as directed., • Collect and prepare samples for basic laboratory testing (fecal, UA, cytology prep, etc.)., • Gather and input patient history and surgical request information, including follow-ups for research or educational cases as directed by doctors., • Assist with surgical inventory maintenance, restocking, and tracking expired or missing items., • Support the cleaning and turnover of surgical suites and patient prep areas., • Communicate clearly and professionally with team members, clients, and referring veterinarians as needed.
