Job Description ABOUT YMCA METROPOLITAN LOS ANGELES The YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles (the Y) is seeking a cause-driven youth development professional to lead, manage, and oversee our youth development department in the areas of youth sports, teen programming, parent-child, school-based physical education programs, child activity center, youth enrichment and other youth-based program operations, county-wide throughout the YMCA. The YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles (the Y) currently operates a large portfolio of youth and family programs, including, but not limited to: Youth Sports Leagues (Jr. Clippers basketball, LA Kings ball hockey/NHL Street, LA Dodgers Dreamteam baseball and softball, soccer, futsal, volleyball, flag football/NFL Flag, etc.), Youth and Government (Model UN and MLC), Early Learning Readiness, Adventure Guides, PE PLAY (at over 100 schools), child activity centers at certain YMCA locations, and youth enrichment classes. POSITION OVERVIEW The YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles is seeking a dynamic leader who will, with the support of a operations executive leadership team, increase the Y's impact and footprint in the youth and family development space, through strategic leadership and targeted partnerships. In alignment with the Y's Center for Community Well-Being strategy framework, the Vice President of Youth Development Operations will be instrumental in the execution of the Y's cradle-to-community well-being youth development strategy, which aims to create a pathway for success for every child in Los Angeles, through programs, services, initiatives, and advocacy. The total annual operating budget for this department is approximately 9M+. This position reports to and is supported by the Chief Program Officer. This position will supervise seven direct reports: three Operations Executive Directors, one Associate Executive Director and three Senior Program Director. In addition, this position is supported by a shared Director of Youth Development Services and Coordinator of Youth Development Services. This team supervises an additional 150+ youth development directors, coordinators, and direct-service staff and a large number of volunteers and interns. In addition, this position will be a contributing member of the Y's youth development strategy leadership team, consisting of executive staff who oversee School-Age Child Care, Expanded Learning, preschool and other youth-focused programs at the Y. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES Attend staff meetings and training as required. Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting, and risk management. Demonstrate the Six Pillars of Character (Trustworthiness, Citizenship, Respect, Responsibility, Caring, and Fairness) as well as the YMCA Core Values of Caring, Respect, Honesty, and Responsibility, in all dealings with members, guests, volunteers, and fellow staff. Demonstrate competencies in and willingness to develop in the Cause Driven Leadership areas of mission advancement, collaboration, operational effectiveness, and personal growth. Strategic Operations • Strategically lead the YMCA's Youth Development department, including parent-child, youth enrichment, teen leadership programs, youth sports, physical education, etc. Innovate and ideate to ensure sustainability across all programs., • Lead, develop, and implement strategies to ensure programs achieve enrollment goals identified in Y's annual operating plan., • Effectively communicate program details to necessary departments, oversee quality control and curriculum development for youth development programs, and lead initiatives to create nurturing, youth-centered environments with volunteer and family involvement., • Oversee the distribution of ongoing program member evaluations and surveys to ensure that high levels of quality in programs are maintained at all times; ensure outcomes align with the community's needs and the Y's strategic plan., • Build strong relationships with YMCA centers, schools, partners and the community, evaluate program quality and needs, and collaborate with school administrations, districts, board members, and community organizations to advance the Y's mission and maximize its impact on youth development. Staff Leadership • Work with the team to ensure they regularly visit program sites and complete evaluations. Review evaluation and ensure that plans of correction of developed, if needed., • Develop and support a strategy around staff recruitment and hiring. Provide direct supervision to department staff, assuring that all staff are qualified, certified, and meeting minimum performance standards for their position., • Work with your team to ensure that monthly department cluster meetings and staff training are planned and executed. Design, co-create, or partner with a third party to facilitate professional development opportunities, and execute ongoing training for staff and volunteers through various meetings, courses, workshops, and regional events, including youth development summits and conferences. Community Engagement • Create opportunities (events, initiatives, activities) for the community to engage in the Y., • Identify program volunteer positions and assist with identifying, recruiting, and tracking program volunteers., • Support youth development events and initiatives as a contributing member of the team, such as the Y's Girls Empowerment Day, Young Men's Empowerment Day, Healthy Kids Day and other large-scale events. Operations & Compliance • Create and maintain systems to ensure that programs are in compliance with risk management and safety protocols., • Maintain a commitment to safety through regularly scheduled and documented on-site safety inspections. Ensure that standards for safety and risk management are met., • Explore, develop, and strategize other ways to provide programming to the broader community., • Review high-level incident reports, evaluate, and take appropriate action. Ensure that all job descriptions and performance standards are accurate, current, and on file for all employees., • Collaborate with other departments and with centers to grow strategy around the Y's Get Summer teen initiative., • Work in step with California YMCA Youth & government to support the Los Angeles Y's growth and program sustainability., • Ensure all exempt program sites follow The Y's standards and use recruitment strategies to ensure all licensed facilities have a fully qualified director. Fiscal Management • Develop and manage annual operating budgets for all programs, achieve financial goals, complete monthly forecasting, and monitor budgets with variance analysis and expense control., • Work closely with the Y's finance team to ensure that 3rd party funding is managed appropriately. Prepare and submit reports and documentation as required., • Oversee department spending and obtain authorizations accordingly., • Develop and support year-round fundraising programs, including donor relations, grant opportunities, and special event sponsorships. Maintain good rapport with current and future funders, including updates throughout the year, program tours, etc. QUALIFICATIONS • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in academic preparation and/or experience., • Related Experience: Experience managing and operating a large portfolio of programs. Minimum of four (4) years of experience managing high-level youth development or executive-level community-based programs, including experience supervising supervisors and staff., • Licenses & Certification: YMCA Multi-Team Leader Certification preferred., • Other: Knowledge of program planning, implementation, and management; staff supervision, budgeting/fiscal management. Experience in community development, partnerships, and relations. Experience working with school personnel and school leadership.
