The Endocrine Laboratory Supervisor is an experienced, licensed Clinical Laboratory Technologist who oversees the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the endocrine laboratory. Primary responsibilities include working in the endocrine laboratory, processing and analyzing samples, signing off on results, supervising personnel, and maintaining the operational and regulatory requirements of the laboratory. The Supervisor will leverage their thorough knowledge and understanding of quality control and quality assurance to maintain the laboratory and ensure regulatory readiness. As team lead, the Supervisor will direct, train, and manage a team of Laboratory Assistants and Laboratory Coordinators, establishing a high-performance culture focused on quality, accuracy, consistency, and continuous improvement. Responsibilities Laboratory Operations and Regulatory Readiness • Runs hormone assays. Processes and analyzes blood on STAT and routine samples, such as Estradiol, hCG, LH, FSH, P4, PRL, TSH, and AMH., • Reports on and signs off on results., • Maintains laboratory standard operations manual, making and documenting all appropriate changes. Ensures that standard operating procedures are followed and take corrective action as needed., • Ensures that quality controls, calibration, and instrument preventive maintenance checks are performed and documented as needed., • Arranges equipment replacement, service, calibrations, and controls in compliance with internal schedule., • Maintains quality management system for the endocrinology laboratory. Maintains quality results by participating in the hospital quality assurance program, consulting with pathologists, performing proficiency surveys, reviewing quality control and quality assurance programs, making adjustments in policy and procedures, generating reports, and maintaining records., • Signs off on QC forms., • Responsible for SOPs and regulatory readiness as primary contact for NYS DOH CLEP., • Ensures that all necessary permits are current and works with management and Director of Compliance and Regulatory Affairs to renew permits as required. Performs corrective action review after NYSDOH inspections and reports out to Laboratory Director., • Reviews audits and quality indicator worksheets looking for negative trends, reporting to the Laboratory Director., • Reports out for endocrine lab in divisional meetings and routinely reports on progress to Laboratory Director and Division Chief, • Performs all other duties as assigned within scope of practice and/or training., • Leads or participates in projects and special assignments to support departmental or divisional strategy and continuous improvement initiatives., • Engages laboratory staff to contribute to projects as relevant. Reports on project progress and makes recommendations., • Ensures that communication of changes is cascaded throughout unit and that feedback channels are in place. Works with Laboratory Coordinator II and management to address any escalated concerns and identified risks as needed., • Prepares and presents ad hoc reports and/or presentations for administrative or clinical leaders about operational challenges or issues, as needed., • Oversees onboarding and training of new and current endocrinology lab staff. Identifies roadblocks to performance, needed areas of improvement, and opportunities for growth. Develops and implements training and development plans. Works with HR to develop remediation/action plans as needed., • Manages endocrine laboratory staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage., • Ensures that staff productivity benchmarks and quality measures are achieved. Develops remediation plans as needed. Monitors unit metrics and goals to measure the effectiveness of retention strategies., • Demonstrates self-development and keeps current on a variety of industry topics., • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of related experience., • Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science or other field acceptable for licensure., • Advanced QA/QC knowledge in a laboratory setting., • Experience participating in or leading quality, operations, and/or performance improvement projects in a laboratory setting., • Proficiency in planning and executing technical and operational projects with cross-functional teams., • Experience developing or maintaining standard operating procedures., • Demonstrated advanced skills in problem assessment and collaborative problem solving in a technical setting. Adaptability to new and changing situations., • Strong data literacy, including the ability to read, analyze, interpret, validate, and communicate instrument data and results of technical reports and analysis., • Team leadership skills, including strong communication, feedback, and conflict management skills; emotional intelligence; and the ability to foster collaboration, promote a culture of goal-achievement, coach and develop others, and lead others through new and changing situations., • Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies, departmental, Service Corp, and organizational policies and procedures for all staff.
