Job DescriptionJob Title: Avionics / Journeyman Electrician Job Description This field-based role focuses on installing, commissioning, and servicing electrical power systems, including generators, inverters, battery storage systems, and network/communications cabinets. You will execute well-defined installation and commissioning tasks by following established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), drawings, and checklists to deliver safe, high-quality work. The position does not involve system design or engineering; instead, it emphasizes hands-on execution, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation in both warehouse and outdoor environments, with periodic travel for project installations and commissioning. Responsibilities • Install and terminate electrical equipment, wiring, conduit, cable tray, and electrical panels in accordance with SOPs and electrical codes., • Install and integrate backup generators and transfer equipment to support reliable power systems., • Install battery energy storage systems (BESS) as part of complete power solutions., • Install inverters and power conversion equipment to support various electrical applications., • Install network and communications cabinets and integrate them into existing infrastructure., • Install grounding, surge protection, and system bonding to ensure safe and compliant systems., • Pull, route, label, and terminate power and low-voltage/data cabling with strong attention to detail., • Perform equipment startup and functional testing following SOPs and installation manuals., • Execute work strictly according to company SOPs, installation manuals, and electrical drawings., • Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and installation instructions to complete installations accurately., • Complete installation checklists, test reports, and commissioning documentation in a thorough and timely manner., • Ensure all work complies with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable local electrical codes., • Test electrical systems using meters and diagnostic equipment to verify safe and proper operation., • Troubleshoot wiring, panels, controls, and equipment during installation and startup to resolve issues efficiently., • Identify installation issues, determine root causes, and escalate to engineering or supervisors when necessary., • Support inspections by participating in reviews and correcting any identified deficiencies., • Follow all OSHA, NEC, and company safety standards at all times., • Perform lock-out/tag-out and arc-flash safe work practices to protect yourself and others., • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site throughout all phases of work., • Promote a strong safety culture and a zero-incident mindset within the team., • Complete work orders, daily reports, and installation documentation accurately and on schedule., • Communicate progress, material needs, and issues clearly to supervisors and project stakeholders., • Interact professionally with customers and site contacts to represent the organization positively., • Travel approximately 3–4 days every 3–4 weeks for project installations and commissioning as needed., • Use hand tools, power tools, torque tools, and other equipment safely and effectively during assembly and installation tasks., • Perform mechanical and electronic assembly work, including PCB assembly, soldering, and epoxy application when required., • Conduct quality control and quality inspections to ensure that all work meets established standards.Essential Skills, • At least 4 years of electrical installation experience., • Proven experience installing or servicing generators, battery backup systems, solar, or other power systems (preferred but strongly valued)., • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals., • Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and safe electrical work practices., • Demonstrated ability to execute work according to SOPs, installation manuals, and electrical drawings., • Hands-on experience with testing and troubleshooting electrical systems using meters and diagnostic equipment., • Solid problem-solving skills with good judgment and proactive decision-making., • Strong attention to detail in installation, labeling, documentation, and quality checks., • Mechanical aptitude, including experience with mechanical assembly and blueprint reading., • Experience with electronic assembly, including PCB assembly and soldering., • Ability to perform quality control and quality inspection tasks to verify compliance and performance., • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel periodically for project work., • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and 75+ lbs occasionally., • Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and work in confined spaces., • Ability to stand, kneel, crouch, and work in outdoor environments for extended periods.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Journeyman Electrician License (state or local) preferred., • Experience working with high-voltage systems and large terminals., • Experience with backup generators or transfer switches., • Experience with battery energy storage systems (BESS)., • Experience with inverters or solar PV systems., • Experience with low-voltage systems or network cabinet installations., • Background in field service or construction environments., • Experience using torque tools, hand tools, and power tools in assembly and installation work., • Familiarity with epoxy application, soldering techniques, and PCB handling., • Ability to follow detailed SOPs and checklists with consistency and accuracy., • Strong communication skills for coordinating with supervisors, team members, and customers., • Comfort working in environments with electrical hazards, construction activity, and varying Work Environment You will work primarily in a warehouse indoor space for initial builds, with outdoor work required for repairs and installations once systems are deployed. The role involves regular use of hand tools, power tools, torque tools, meters, and diagnostic equipment, as well as interaction with electrical panels, generators, inverters, battery energy storage systems, and network cabinets. You can expect exposure to electrical hazards, active construction environments, and varying outdoor weather conditions, so adherence to safety protocols is essential. The position may require occasional overtime to meet project timelines, along with travel of approximately 3–4 days every 3–4 weeks for installations and commissioning at customer sites. The physical environment includes working at heights, in confined spaces, and in positions that require standing, kneeling, and crouching for extended periods, with no specific dress code beyond appropriate safety and job-appropriate attire. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of South San Francisco, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $70.00/hr.
