Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Senior Director, Planned Giving will lead the strategy, growth, and execution of American Bible Society’s planned giving program, ensuring it supports both current ministry priorities and long-term sustainability. This role will provide strategic, data driven leadership for the development and execution of a comprehensive planned giving marketing plan to effectively engage, educate, and inspire donors to consider legacy and non-cash gifts. The Senior Director will oversee a team of planned giving professionals and collaborate across Development, Finance, Legal, and Executive Leadership to cultivate, solicit, and steward donors. This highly visible leadership role serves on the Development Leadership Team and plays a critical part in advancing American Bible Society’s mission into its third century of ministry. Key Responsibilities: Planned Giving Strategy and Program Leadership • Provide strategic leadership for all planned giving efforts, including bequests, charitable gift annuities, trusts, beneficiary designations, complex assets, and other legacy giving vehicles., • Develop and execute a comprehensive, data-driven planned giving strategy aligned with organizational fundraising goals and long-term sustainability., • Partner with the Chief Development Officer and the Development Leadership Team to integrate gift planning into major gift, annual giving, and campaign strategies., • Establish annual and multi-year revenue projections and KPI’s for the planned giving program., • Manage a portfolio of high-capacity donors and prospects with a focus on legacy and complex gifts., • Personally cultivate, solicit, and steward donors in collaboration with Major Gift Officers and executive leadership., • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing planned giving team., • Oversee hiring, training, performance management, and professional development of direct reports., • Foster a collaborative, donor-centered culture rooted in excellence, accountability, and mission alignment., • Provide strategic, data-driven leadership for the marketing and promotion of American Bible Society’s planned giving and legacy giving programs., • Partner closely with Marketing, Communications, and Development leadership to design and implement integrated marketing strategies that inspire long-term donor commitment and legacy participation., • Guide the development of targeted messaging, donor journeys, and multichannel campaigns (print, digital, email, events, and advisor-focused outreach) that clearly communicate the impact and spiritual significance of legacy giving., • Oversee content strategy for planned giving communications, including legacy society materials, web content, testimonials, and donor education resources., • Collaborate with analytics and prospect development teams to segment audiences and evaluate campaign performance, using insights to refine strategy and improve conversion., • Collaborate closely with Prospect Development to identify and qualify planned giving prospects., • Partner with Donor Services, Stewardship, Finance, and Legal to ensure accurate gift administration and exceptional donor experience., • Serve as a member of the Development Leadership Team, contributing to enterprise-wide fundraising strategy and planning., • Stay current on trends in philanthropy, estate planning, tax law, and charitable giving vehicles., • Represent the American Bible Society professionally with donors, advisors, and external partners. Master's in Business Administration, Non-profit Management, or related field strongly preferred., • Experience: A minimum of 10-15 years of nonprofit fundraising experience, with significant emphasis on planned giving and complex gifts. Demonstrated success in leading a Planned Giving team and program. Minimum of 7-10 years of leadership and management experience., • Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of planned giving vehicles, estate planning and philanthropic tax concepts. Experience utilizing a CRM system, preferably Salesforce. CFRE, CPA or Certified Financial Planner credential strongly preferred.
