Job Description Senior Estimator – Architectural Millwork Position Overview The Senior Estimator plays a critical role in driving profitable growth by producing accurate, detailed, and timely estimates for custom architectural millwork projects across commercial, residential, and hospitality sectors. This role requires deep knowledge of woodworking, fabrication methods, materials, hardware, labor, subcontractors, and installation practices. The Senior Estimator collaborates closely with project managers, engineers, operations, and clients to ensure bids are competitive, complete, and aligned with production capabilities and shop workflow. Key Responsibilities * Analyze and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, addenda, RFIs, and project documents. * Prepare comprehensive material takeoffs, including cabinetry, paneling, trims, doors, countertops, hardware, and specialty items. * Develop detailed breakdowns for materials, labor, fabrication hours, finishing requirements, and installation costs. * Prepare accurate cost estimates using company tools, standardized templates, and estimating software. * Obtain and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing for materials, hardware, finishes, and specialty components. * Identify scope gaps, risks, exclusions, and value‐engineering opportunities. * Prepare complete bid proposals, budgets, alternates, clarifications, and cost breakdowns for negotiated and competitive bids. * Attend pre‐bid meetings, site walkthroughs, and scope review sessions as needed. * Collaborate with engineering, drafting, production, and project management teams to validate feasibility, lead times, and fabrication methods. * Review and update estimates based on addenda, RFIs, and change orders. * Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, subcontractors, GCs, designers, and clients across all sectors. * Participate in project handoff meetings to ensure a smooth transition from estimating to project management. * Mentor junior estimators and support continuous improvement of estimating processes, tools, and workflows. * Track bid outcomes and contribute to strategic pricing and market positioning. Skills & Qualifications Required * 5+ years of estimating experience in architectural millwork, custom cabinetry, or related woodworking fields (commercial, residential, or hospitality). * Strong ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, interior design plans, and shop drawings. * Deep understanding of millwork materials, joinery methods, veneers, plywood, hardwoods, laminates, hardware systems, finishes, and fabrication workflows. * Proficiency with estimating software, takeoff tools, Excel, Outlook, and PDF markup tools (Bluebeam experience is a plus). * Excellent math, analytical, organizational, and communication skills. * High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple bids and tight deadlines. * Strong collaboration skills across departments and with external partners. Preferred * Familiarity with Microvellum, Cabinet Vision, Innergy, or similar millwork engineering/estimating platforms. * Experience estimating both union and non‐union labor. * Understanding of CNC machining, shop production workflows, and installation practices. * Experience bidding commercial interiors, luxury residential, hospitality, retail, healthcare, and public projects.
