Job DescriptionDescription: The Paving Equipment Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining paving and compaction equipment in the field with minimal supervision. This role supports customer operations by ensuring equipment performance, safety, and compliance with manufacturer and company standards while delivering high-quality service and professionalism. This position may require night shift work, based on customer needs. Essential Job Functions • Perform offsite repairs, diagnostics, and troubleshooting with minimal supervision, • Diagnose equipment malfunctions and operational failures, • Remove, install, disassemble, assemble, test, and adjust parts and components, • Repair or replace components in accordance with CAT and applicable OEM standards, • Test and verify proper operation of completed repairs and adjustments, • Prepare and complete all job-related documentation, including service reports, work orders, parts orders, and customer records, • Access and utilize required systems and databases, • Operate equipment and company vehicles with all required licenses and certifications, • Maintain service vehicle inspection records, daily inspections, and DOT-compliant driver logs, • Adhere to contamination control, HAZMAT regulations, safety policies, and company procedures, • Maintain company tools, equipment, and vehicles in clean, safe, and working condition, • Communicate job progress and repair needs to supervisors and customers as required, • Complete assigned jobs to meet or exceed flat-rate time and quality metrics, • Work overtime as required by workload and customer needs, • Complete all assigned technician training and safety courses in a timely and proficient manner, • Demonstrate professionalism with internal and external customers, including personal appearance, • Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance, • No direct supervisory responsibilities, • Expected to work independently and demonstrate accountability, • Serve as a professional and safety-focused role model for peers Knowledge and Skill Requirements • Knowledge of paving and compaction equipment, • Knowledge of grade control systems, intelligent compaction, and machine communication software and hardware, • Understanding of asphalt densities, mat deformities, and proper equipment application, • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems and repair practices, • Knowledge of safe work procedures and regulatory requirements, • Proficiency with computer software, diagnostic tools, and electronic machine systems, • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, • Excellent planning, organization, and time-management skills, • Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills, • Ability to clearly communicate both verbally and in writing, • Ability to operate forklifts and specialized repair equipment, • Three or more years of paving construction equipment experience, • Experience diagnosing complex electrical and electronic systems, • Familiarity with OEM service standards and field service best practices, • High school diploma or equivalent preferred, • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record, • Ownership of required tools necessary to perform field repairs, • Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, • Sustained physical activity requiring strength, stamina, balance, and coordination, • Ability to climb ladders and ascend or descend equipment safely, • Ability to maneuver and work underneath heavy equipment, • Ability to work in cramped spaces and at elevated heights, • Visual and auditory acuity to detect alarms, instructions, and hazards, • Ability to read, write, and comprehend technical information, • This position may require night shift work, based on customer needs., • Regularly works outdoors around moving mechanical parts, • Noise levels may be loud at times, • Occasional indoor work in environmentally controlled conditions, • Exposure to weather extremes, including heat, cold, rain, and humidity, • Possible exposure to chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and rotating equipment, • Required use of personal protective and safety equipment, • Work performed in confined spaces and at elevated heights Requirements:
