Job Description Shift Supervisor This position reports to the Social Development Director and is a salaried, exempt role. At Job Corps, this role carries real responsibility. You are not just overseeing a dorm. You are leading staff during your assigned shift, maintaining standards, and ensuring a structured environment where students can develop the habits needed to succeed. You are responsible for both people and performance. You supervise Residential Advisors, hold them accountable, and ensure operations run safely, consistently, and in line with expectations. Position Overview The Shift Supervisor directs and manages all dormitory operations during their assigned shift, including oversight of staff, student accountability, and the dormitory career preparation program. This role ensures that staff are supported, students are supervised, and the environment remains safe, structured, and inspection ready at all times. You will lead by example, enforce standards, and ensure both staff and students are aligned with center expectations and Career Success Standards. Core Responsibilities • Supervises Residential Advisors during assigned shift, including scheduling support, direction, and oversight, • Maintains control of dormitory operations to ensure a safe, clean, orderly, and structured environment, • Evaluates situations within the dorm and makes decisions or recommendations as needed, • Ensures consistent enforcement of center policies, procedures, and behavioral expectations, • Ensures proper staff coverage and accountability throughout the shift, • Coaches and provides feedback to staff and reports performance concerns to leadership, • Oversees student accountability and ensures accurate documentation of all significant events, • Coordinates dormitory activities, including recreation and student leadership programs, as applicable during shift, • Supports and reinforces the dormitory career preparation and orientation program, • Ensures dorms remain inspection ready at all times, • Maintains communication between management and residential staff, • Coordinates with counselors and other departments to address student needs and behavior concerns, • Facilitates or supports life skills training, group sessions, and student development activities, • Ensures compliance with Job Corps zero tolerance policies and behavior management systems, • Responds to student issues including health, safety, and behavioral concerns, • Identifies facility maintenance needs and initiates work orders as needed, • Supports center-wide activities and assists other departments when required, • Promotes a safe environment free from harassment, intimidation, bullying, and disrespect, • Maintains accountability of staff, students, and property and enforces safety practices, • Performs other duties as assigned Qualifications • Associate degree or two years of related experience preferred, • One year of experience working with at-risk youth or in a residential setting preferred, • Prior supervisory or lead experience preferred, • Job Corps experience preferred, • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record preferred Additional Requirements • Knowledge of counseling techniques and behavior management, • Ability to effectively communicate with and relate to disadvantaged youth, • Strong leadership and staff management skills, • Ability to manage multiple priorities and make sound decisions, • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required or ability to obtain, • Strong written and verbal communication skills, • Ability to coordinate across departments and maintain professional relationships Employment Requirements • Must complete all mandated training requirements, • Must pass a background check, including a federal criminal check and drug screening Compensation and Benefits Our benefits include: • Low-cost medical, dental, and vision insurance, • Paid time off, • 11 paid holidays, • Flexible spending accounts, • Paid short-term and voluntary long-term disability, • Group term life and AD&D insurance Veteran Friendly Employer We proudly stand as a Veteran friendly employer and recognize the value of service, leadership, and real-world experience.
