Job DescriptionAV Engineer – Commissioning Specialist Location: Boston, MA market with travel throughout New Hampshire Type: Full-Time / Contract (as applicable) Overview We are seeking an experienced AV Engineer with strong commissioning expertise to support projects across the Greater Boston area and New Hampshire. This role is focused on commissioning and validating audiovisual systems, ensuring installed environments are fully configured, tested, tuned, and ready for customer handoff. This is not an installer-only role. Success in this position requires deep technical judgment, strong troubleshooting ability, and confidence working across hardware, software, control, networking, and signal flow. Key Responsibilities • Commission and validate audiovisual systems in corporate and enterprise environments, • Configure, program, test, and tune AV systems to meet design intent and performance specifications, • Perform advanced troubleshooting across hardware, software, control systems, networking, and signal flow, • Identify and resolve system issues that could delay handoff or impact end-user experience, • Perform comprehensive system testing of:, • Audio systems, including DSP configuration, tuning, gain structure, and feedback mitigation, • Video systems, including signal flow validation, resolution, scaling, and performance verification, • Control systems, room logic, and automation behavior, • Load, validate, and adjust control and DSP code in platforms such as Crestron, Q‑SYS, Biamp, Extron, and similar systems, • Validate AV networking configuration, including:, • Dante and other AV‑over‑IP technologies, • VLANs, QoS, and multicast behavior (as applicable), • Proper device communication and signal routing, • Participate in punch‑list walkthroughs and final acceptance testing, • Produce commissioning documentation, test reports, and as‑built updates, • Support system handoff and basic end‑user training as required 1. Advanced Troubleshooting & System Diagnostics • Ability to quickly isolate and resolve issues across hardware, software, control systems, networking, and signal flow, • Strong diagnostic approach that prevents projects from stalling during commissioning, • Confidence addressing complex system interactions under real‑world conditions2. Strong Understanding of AV Networking & Signal Flow, • Fluency in modern, IP‑based AV environments, • Hands‑on experience with Dante and other AV‑over‑IP technologies, • Working knowledge of VLANs, QoS, multicast behavior, and networked device communication, • Ability to validate that signals move correctly and systems are configured as designed3. Hands‑On Experience with Major Control & DSP Platforms, • Practical experience working with platforms such as Crestron, Q‑SYS, Biamp, Extron, or similar, • Ability to load existing code, adjust DSP blocks, verify control logic, and tune systems to specification, • Does not require full custom programming skills, but must be highly effective in system‑level configuration and verificationRequired Qualifications, • 5+ years of experience in professional AV engineering or systems integration, • Proven, hands‑on experience commissioning AV systems (not install-only), • Strong understanding of AV signal flow, system architecture, and performance validation, • Experience working in networked AV environments, • Ability to read and validate AV drawings, schematics, and specifications, • Strong communication and documentation skills, • Ability to travel locally throughout the Boston and NH marketsPreferred / Nice to Have, • CTS, CTS‑D, or CTS‑I certification, • Experience in corporate workplace and hybrid meeting environments, • Familiarity with AVIXA standards and commissioning best practices This is a Contract position based out of Boston, MA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $48.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
