Position Summary \n \n The High School Social Studies Teacher is responsible for providing rigorous, engaging, and culturally responsive instruction. The teacher will develop and deliver standards-aligned instruction in social studies courses, assess student learning, provide individualized support, and contribute to a positive and inclusive school environment. \n The ideal candidate demonstrates strong classroom management skills, high expectations for all students, effective instructional practices, and a commitment to student achievement and college and career readiness. \n \n Essential Duties and Responsibilities \n\n • Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned social studies instruction for high school students.\n, • Teach courses such as U.S. History, Global History, Government, Economics, Civics, or other social studies courses as assigned.\n, • Develop daily and long-term lesson plans aligned with New York State learning standards and school curriculum requirements.\n, • Use a variety of instructional strategies to address different learning styles, abilities, and academic needs.\n, • Establish and maintain a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment.\n, • Maintain high academic and behavioral expectations for all students.\n, • Incorporate primary and secondary sources, historical documents, current events, technology, research, and project-based learning into instruction.\n, • Teach students to analyze evidence, evaluate sources, think critically, conduct research, and communicate effectively.\n, • Administer assessments and use student data to monitor progress and adjust instruction.\n, • Provide timely, meaningful, and constructive feedback to students.\n, • Provide appropriate interventions, differentiation, and additional academic support to students who require assistance.\n, • Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, assignments, assessments, and student progress.\n, • Communicate regularly and professionally with parents and guardians regarding student achievement, progress, and concerns.\n, • Participate in department meetings, grade-level meetings, professional development, faculty meetings, and school events.\n, • Support school-wide initiatives designed to improve student achievement, attendance, engagement, and school culture.\n, • Maintain professional boundaries and comply with all school policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.\n, • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the administration.\n\n \n Classroom Management \n\n • Establish clear classroom routines, procedures, and expectations.\n, • Maintain an orderly, respectful, and productive learning environment.\n, • Address student behavior consistently and in accordance with school policies.\n, • Document and communicate significant behavioral or academic concerns.\n, • Build positive relationships with students while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.\n, • Utilize restorative and/or positive behavior strategies when appropriate.\n\n \n Qualifications \n Required: \n\n • Bilingual Spanish Preferred\n, • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.\n, • New York State Social Studies teaching certification appropriate to the grade level, or eligibility for certification.\n, • Demonstrated knowledge of social studies content and effective instructional practices.\n, • Strong classroom management and communication skills.\n\n Preferred: \n\n • Master's degree (preferred) in Education, Social Studies, History, or a related field.\n, • Prior experience teaching at the high school level.\n, • Experience teaching New York State Regents-level courses.\n, • Experience working in a diverse, urban, or charter school environment.\n, • Familiarity with data-driven instruction and differentiated learning.\n, • Experience incorporating technology and project-based learning into instruction.\n\n Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities \n\n • Strong knowledge of U.S. and world history, civics, government, economics, and related social studies disciplines.\n, • Ability to create rigorous and engaging lessons.\n, • Strong written and verbal communication skills.\n, • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.\n, • Ability to analyze student data and use it to inform instruction.\n, • Ability to differentiate instruction for students with varying academic abilities.\n, • Ability to establish positive relationships with
