Marcom is currently seeking an onsite Mechanical Engineer. Position Purpose: Position Purpose: This position supports the Department of Energy customer work scope primarily in nuclear facilities within the Civil/Structural & Analysis organization in a variety of projects and functions. Integrate safety into all aspects of engineering duties and personal accountability in the workplace. While not required, experience in the nuclear field and related construction is preferred, along with the ability to: Apply advanced principles, theories, and concepts, contribute to the development of new principles and concepts, develop solutions to complex problems or create innovations through adaptation of emerging technological developments or processes, serve as organization spokesperson on specialized topics within an area of expertise (e.g., component design and analyses are primarily with steel (and alloys). Additionally, may require planning efforts on complex assignments or projects, lead major design/analysis efforts, always evaluating progress and results and recommending changes in processes and procedures. Key elements: • Perform analysis, hand calculations, modeling and simulation of structural and mechanical systems and components., • Perform linear and nonlinear, static and dynamic, analysis of such factors as stress, force, vibration, and material plasticity. Compare results to the provisions of governing codes, standards, and orders., • Perform seismic analysis (static equivalent loads) of non-building structures and components of varying complexity., • Provide support to various projects requiring design and analysis of steel, aluminum., • Provide support to design teams in development of design requirements, alternative analysis, equipment selection and sizing, vendor equipment summaries and evaluations, and drawings., • Develop specifications, drawings, supporting analysis and calculations and Engineering Design Files., • Perform technical checking of Engineering Design Files and drawings for a variety of projects., • Provide support to Safety Analysis through analysis of accidents and their potential consequences., • Contribute to and develop cost estimates., • Perform and document detailed static and dynamic structural and mechanical engineering analyses of various non-building structures and components to verify design integrity. Recommend design changes to existing or proposed structures to ensure design function will be met under applied loads. Review vendor or project related submittals regarding structural analyses or other related topics for completeness and accuracy. Ensure principles of ISMS are incorporated into analysis, designs and execution of jobs., • Perform independent technical checks and reviews of others analysis and design packages to verify design, ensure integration of safety, and conformance to design codes and specifications., • Meet with customers to understand job requirements, plan the scope of work, estimate the resources needed to complete the task, establish the schedule, and report status., • Provide on-site support in job planning, execution, and post-job implementation., • Establish and maintain proficiency with computer-based design and analysis tools., • Be familiar with company standards and procedures and perform work to consensus codes., • Maintain job files, manage records, and submit to document control., • Prepare reports and presentations for various phases of work. Provide weekly status., • Participate in company safety activities (iMove, safety meetings and observations, assessments, etc.) and promote a safety conscious work environment., • Minimum 8 years of related technical experience performing analysis and design., • Accredited four-year degree in mechanical engineering. Prefer technical experience providing operations-oriented design and/or analysis. Prefer MS in mechanical engineering and experience using complex structural/stress, fluids analysis, heat transfer, thermal analysis, and finite element analysis., • Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and experience using structural/stress analysis and finite element analysis tools (Abaqus is preferred), and MS Word and MathCad., • Knowledge of/ability to apply national consensus codes and standards, federal/national statutes, and local guidelines as required., • Ability and willingness to learn and apply new skills., • Excellent communication and negotiation skills; can effectively write reports, make presentations and productively interface with design team, management, coworkers, and clients., • Complete work on schedule, participate in reviews, and provide technical checks and peer reviews, • Prefer experience using complex structural/stress (over fluids) analysis, and Abaqus finite element analysis., • Must be able to obtain an "L" Security clearance (depending on project requirements and approval)., • Licensed professional engineer in the State of Idaho in applicable engineering field is preferred., • General Employee Training including ISMS, VPP and safety meetings as required by the company or the task-specific or facility-specific conditions to be identified by the home organization supervisor or manager on the Individual Training Plan., • Additional task-specific training to be identified by the home or work organization manager.
