Mechanical Design Engineer – Hydronics & Process Piping About NDBS National Design Build Services is a mechanical design/build firm that offers our customers knowledge and experience in designing air conditioning, heating, ventilation, and refrigeration systems (HVAC/R) in commercial and industrial buildings. Our projects consist of Healthcare, Food Processing, Manufacturing, Warehouses, Office Buildings and Refrigerated Warehouses. Position Description: The Mechanical Design Engineer – Hydronics & Process Piping is a key technical role at NDBS, responsible for the design and engineering of hydronic systems, industrial piping networks, and HVAC/R mechanical infrastructure from concept through construction. This position is heavily focused on piping system design, fluid distribution, equipment integration, and field coordination in complex industrial and commercial environments. You will work closely with field teams, project managers, and preconstruction to ensure piping and hydronic systems are engineered for constructability, efficiency, and code compliance. Position Information: Position Type: Full Time Travel Required: 15% Department: Engineering Location: St. Louis, MO 63146 OR Remote, United States Skills & Responsibilities (including but not limited to): • Adhering to NDBS Core Values, • Safety, • We Answer Our Phones, • Always Innovating, • Collaborative Partnerships, • Reputation, • Entrepreneurship, • Hydronics & Process Piping Design (Primary Focus), • Design and engineer hydronic heating and cooling water systems, • Design industrial and process piping systems including chilled water, hot water, condenser water, glycol, refrigerant, compressed air, and specialty process piping, • Perform pipe sizing, pump selection, expansion analysis, and equipment integration, • Develop piping layouts, isometrics, and system schematics in Revit, • Apply knowledge of fluid dynamics, pressure drop, flow rates, and system balancing, • Ensure designs meet applicable mechanical and plumbing codes, • Develop Sequences of Operation related to hydronic and piping systems, • Coordinate closely with field teams to ensure constructability of piping systems, • HVAC Mechanical Design, • Perform load calculations and psychrometric analysis, • Design and plan layouts of equipment, duct, and piping systems, • Drive HVAC design from concept through construction drawings utilizing Revit, • Application engineering for refrigeration and HVAC/R systems, • Project Execution:, • Perform internal turnover meetings to identify project scope, risks, resource requirements, communications, schedule, and budgets, • Collaborate with preconstruction department to ensure project bid scope is developed into design documents., • Collaborate with operations department to ensure a shared understanding of project scope and overall project execution, • Drive quality control through on site project visits and punch list creation. Qualifications and Education Requirements: • Bachelor's degree in related Engineering field, Mechanical preferred, • 5+ years of experience specifically in hydronic and/or industrial process piping design, • Strong background in fluid systems, piping layouts, and equipment integration, • Experience designing piping systems for industrial, healthcare, food processing, or manufacturing facilities, • Proficiency in Revit for piping system modeling, • Solid understanding of mechanical, plumbing, and energy codes related to hydronics and piping, • HVAC/R experience required, refrigeration experience a plus, • Healthcare design experience a plus, • Self-motivated with strong time management and organizational skills, • Ability to thrive in deadline-driven, fast-paced environments, • Strong communication and collaboration skill NDBS is an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
