Job DescriptionDirector of Engineering Director of Engineering Location: Hybrid, onsite 2-3 days a week. Can be based out of either of our office locations: • Saddle Brook, NJ, • Lakewood, NJ Position Overview We are seeking a Director of Engineering to lead and scale an ambitious engineering organization focused on building innovative AI-enabled products from 0 to 1. The role bridges technical leadership, product development, and people management: you will define technical strategy, deliver high-quality MVPs, establish scalable engineering practices, and mentor teams to ship impactful solutions. The ideal candidate has deep experience building AI products, a proven track record of taking concepts from prototype to production, and the ability to partner closely with product and executive leadership. Healthcare domain experience and software start-up background are strong pluses. Key Responsibilities • Own technical vision and strategy for engineering, aligning roadmaps with product and company goals., • Lead development of AI-enabled 0to1 products: drive discovery, rapid prototyping, MVP definition, and productionization., • Design and oversee scalable architecture and infrastructure for ML and data systems, including MLOps, model deployment, monitoring, and data pipelines., • Recruit, mentor, and retain high-performing engineering teams; build effective organizational structure and career development paths., • Collaborate with product management, design, and research to prioritize features, define success metrics, and iterate quickly based on user feedback., • Establish engineering best practices: code quality, testing, CI/CD, observability, incident response, and security/compliance., • Manage delivery and execution: set clear goals, remove blockers, track progress, and ensure reliable releases., • Partner with leadership on hiring plans, budgeting, and timeline commitments; support fundraising and investor technical diligence as needed., • Drive cross-functional alignment with legal, compliance, and customer successespecially where domain-specific considerations (e.g., healthcare data privacy) apply., • 10+ years of software engineering experience with 5+ years in engineering leadership roles (managing multiple teams or a department). You will oversee a team of about 25., • Proven track record shipping AI/ML products to production, including experience with model development lifecycle, MLOps, and data engineering., • Demonstrated experience in 0-to-1 product development: taking ideas from exploration and prototypes through to scalable MVPs and production rollout., • Strong technical foundation in software architecture, distributed systems, cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), APIs, and telemetry/observability., • Experience hiring, coaching, and scaling engineering teams; strong people management and organizational design skills., • Excellent cross-functional communication and stakeholder management; able to translate technical tradeoffs to non-technical audiences and influence strategic decisions., • Comfortable operating in fast-moving environments; experience at a software start-up and/or in ambiguous, early-stage contexts is highly desirable., • Knowledge of healthcare domain, regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA), or experience building products for clinical or health systems is a plus., • BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fieldadvanced degree or equivalent practical experience preferred. - For this position, you must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship for a non-immigrant visa.
