Its goal is to support persistence and increase the college completion rate for low- and modest-income students across the six-county, bi-state service region and secure family-sustaining careers. The organization was designed to change thousands of individual lives and transform the region by preparing the local future workforce and contributing to the regional economy. The KC Scholars Scholarship Program awards traditional college scholarships to high school juniors, adult learner scholarships to adults 18 years and older, and college savings match awards to high school freshmen. The Great Jobs KC program provides tuition assistance to approved career training programs in high-demand industries such as construction, healthcare, information technology, logistics/warehousing, manufacturing, and service careers. With the support of Great Jobs KC, adults 17+ and older can learn the skills needed in one year or less to secure a job with family-sustaining wages. Great Jobs KC supports all its Scholars throughout their college or job training and into their first year of employment. ABOUT THE ROLE Reports to: Chief Executive Officer Location: Kansas City, MO Status: Exempt, Full-time Salary: Annual salary based on experience Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, STD, LTD, Life Insurance, PTO, Holidays, leave program, 401k including employer contribution, and others Operating hours: 8:30 am to 5:00 pm CST KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS · Achieve on-time completion of all financial audit, tax, compliance, and annual reporting requirements, including board, grantor, and regulatory filings, with no material findings or late submissions. · Strengthen organizational reserves to maintain a minimum of 90 days of cash on hand. · Deliver 3-year financial sustainability plan within first 6 months · Collaborate monthly with senior leaders to increase transparency around actual vs. budgeted income and expenses. RESPONSIBILITIES The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for managing the financial operations of the organization, ensuring the organization’s financial health and sustainability. This role will oversee all financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and compliance requirements. The CFO will work closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, and senior leadership to develop and implement financial strategies that support the organization’s mission and goals. Financial Management • Develop and implement financial strategies that support the organization’s mission and goals, • Lead strategic cash management and treasury functions, prudently investing operating reserves and excess cash balances in low-risk, board-approved instruments to preserve capital, ensure liquidity, and maximize risk-adjusted returns in alignment with organizational policy and mission, • Manage and oversee all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis, • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records, including the general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and other financial systems, • Prepare and present financial reports to the CEO and Board of Directors, providing analysis and recommendations as needed, • Ensure compliance with all financial reporting and regulatory requirements, including tax filings, audits, and other reporting requirements, • Develop and oversee the annual budgeting process, working closely with the senior leaders and other stakeholders to develop realistic and achievable budgets, • Monitor actual performance against budget and provide regular updates and analysis to the CEO and Board of Directors, • Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and SLT by modeling financial impact of new initiatives, partnerships, and policy changes, • Design and execute innovative financial strategies that diversify revenue streams, optimize capital structure, and position the organization for scalable growth, • Lead the Finance Committee, collaborating with other committee members to provide strategic financial guidance and support to the organization, • Provide leadership and mentorship to the finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development, • Report on the financial performance of the organization to the Board of Directors, including regular updates on budget performance, forecasts, and financial risks and opportunities, • Collaborate with the CEO and Board of Directors to develop and implement financial policies and procedures that align with the organization’s values and strategic goals, • Oversee all tax filings and compliance requirements, ensuring that the organization is in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, • Manage relationships with external auditors and other financial service providers to ensure compliance with all reporting and regulatory requirementsRequirements: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Education: • At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in financial management, with at least 5 years in a nonprofit organization, • Demonstrated ability to operate in a growth-stage environment, proactively identifying opportunities to increase efficiency, expand impact, and strengthen financial sustainability, • Demonstrated experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis., • Experience in earned revenue or hybrid nonprofit models, • Experience modeling capital campaigns or impact investment, • Experience with government grants, restricted funds, and cost-allocation models highly preferred, • Experience working in a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment with the ability to set and meet clear deadlines., • Strong leadership and management skills, with experience building and leading high-performing teams, • Proven track record of successful financial management, including experience developing and implementing financial strategies, managing budgets, and overseeing financial reporting and compliance, • Strong leadership and management skills, with experience building and leading high-performing teams, • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, Power Point, and OneNote)., • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task., • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality., • Ability to work in a fast-paced, transformational environment., • Able to shift priorities as needed., • Strong project management., • Ability to make objective decisions through facts and data., • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills., • Self-driven yet willing to follow directions, at times with limited input., • Strong relationship building skills., • Willing to go the extra mile as needed., • Personal value system that includes the highest standards of honesty, confidentiality, integrity, loyalty, and professional ethics reflective of the ability to succeed in building and maintaining positive relationships with the community., • Excellent communications skills (written, verbal, research skills, presentation skills, facilitation skills)., • Ability to lift up to 15 lbs., • Ability to work in an office and remote environment., • Ability to travel from and to work and occasionally to regional sites as the organization grows., • Ability to interact with others via technology, face-to-face and collectively.
