Job DescriptionSalary: DOE Position: Staff Geologist Location: Austin, TX Mission/ Position Description Summary The mission of a Staff Geologist for HVJ, a leading specialty engineering firm in Texas, is to support the project manager or other staff as directed to assure client satisfaction following the applicable standards, specifications and company guidelines. Responsibilities Include: Performing field work including marking borings, lab testing as needed, logging behind drill rigs (ability to lift 50 lbs. and some travel and alternating shiftwork should be expected) Coordinate field and/or lab assignments Engineering analyses for shallow and deep foundations, retaining walls, slope stability, and settlement. Drafting geotechnical reports for Project Mangers review Assisting Project Managers in Business Development Key Criteria/Requirements: MSCE or BSCE with three to five years of directly related experience. Registered GIT or in the process of becoming one. Excellent written and communication skills and strong math and science skills Valid Texas Driver License Ability to tolerate year round outdoor work Ability to trouble shoot and fix testing equipment a plus Ability to work nights and weekends sometimes traveling within Texas (as needed) Additional Key Expectations: Obtain PG license within 2 years Key Accountabilities: Utilization The amount of time spent working on billable projects. Applicants must possess degrees in a Geology, Earth Science, or related field. Pay is 70-90k dependent on experience and qualifications. Applicants must be able to be at jobsites and/or offices in the Austin and San Antonio area for fieldwork, meetings, training, and other duties. This job requires fieldwork 1-5 days a week. We pay all costs for necessary training and licensing. Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Conducting Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments., • Conducting Karst Surveys., • Conducting Geologic Assessments., • Analyzing geological data., • Communicating with clients about regulatory needs and requirements., • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards. Education/Experience: • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Science, or a related field is required., • Five years' work experience in consulting is preferred., • Eligibility for certification as a Professional Geologist in the state of Texas required. Candidates with an existing PG are preferred., • Certifications or licenses as a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager is preferred., • Experience in field work, sampling, logging, and drilling operations. Skills and Special Requirements: • Ability to produce clear field notes for reference by team., • Ability to write clear and concise reports for clients with varying knowledge levels., • Ability to communicate clearly with colleges and clients in writing and in person., • Ability to handle multiple ongoing projects and tasks with competing deadlines., • Proficiency in geological mapping and geophysical testing., • Proficiency with GIS systems (ArcGIS or similar) preferred.
