Job Description Job Summary This position is responsible for leading youth worship services that engage and uplift the congregation. The Youth Worship Leader will collaborate closely with the Minister of Ignite Youth Ministry and the Director of Worship & Arts to create an integrated and impactful worship experience that resonates with both the youth and the larger church community. Essential Job Functions 1. Musical Leadership • Search, select, plan, and prepare appropriate music for worship services, youth programs, and special events (e.g., Christmas, Easter, Youth Sundays)., • Conduct weekly rehearsals and coordinate youth choir participation in regular and special worship services., • Teach vocal techniques, musical skills, and choral performance to youth choir members., • Collaborate with the church’s music ministry team, accompanists, and other musicians to ensure musical excellence and unity. 2. Spiritual Development • Foster spiritual growth and fellowship among choir members through prayer, devotionals, and mentorship., • Encourage participation in age-appropriate huddle groups to promote discipleship, fellowship, and spiritual connection., • Encourage and support active participation in worship services, helping youth understand their vital role in leading the congregation through music., • Model and promote Christian values and servant leadership., • Help youth understand how music enhances worship and deepens their faith experience. 3. Administration & Organization • Maintain an organized rehearsal schedule and communicate clearly with parents, youth, and church leadership., • Recruit and retain choir members through outreach to church youth and the broader community., • Partner with parents and volunteers who assist with travel to and from The Church Without Walls worship service locations, ensuring safety, coordination, and clear communication for all youth participants., • Ensure that all parents and volunteers assisting with youth choir activities have completed background checks and Reducing the Risk training, which is required every three (3) years., • Oversee uniforms, ensuring proper fit, cleanliness, and readiness for performances. Coordinate cleaning schedules, fittings, and replacements as needed., • Coordinate logistics for performances, uniforms, and transportation (if needed)., • Utilize church communication tools such as GroupMe and Shelby Next Membership to share information, updates, and reminders with youth, parents, and staff. 4. Collaboration • Work closely with the Minister of Ignite Youth Ministry, the Pastor, and the Director of Worship & Arts to integrate the youth choir into the overall worship ministry., • Participate in Worship & Arts staff meetings and church-wide events as appropriate., • Support and coordinate with other youth ministries and choirs to foster a cohesive and unified ministry environment., • Promote unity and teamwork across ministry areas to reflect one voice and one vision for Christ. 5. Mentorship, Leadership Development & Accountability · Serve as a spiritual mentor and role model for youth, nurturing confidence, discipline, and a Christ-like character. · Identify and develop student leaders within the choir, assigning meaningful leadership roles such as section leaders or devotion leaders. · Provide ongoing coaching that connects spiritual maturity with personal accountability and excellence. · Partner with the Ignite Ministry leadership to create discipleship moments for choir members, including one-on-one check-ins or small group mentoring. · Encourage consistent participation, punctuality, and commitment—holding youth accountable to ministry standards of excellence and respect. 6. Worship Culture & Spiritual Integrity · Create an atmosphere of worship during rehearsals through prayer, devotion, and reflection. · Reinforce that worship is a lifestyle—not a performance—rooted in obedience and love for God. · Model humility and excellence in all ministry interactions. · Maintain spiritual accountability through prayer, worship, and professional development opportunities. · Encourage students to carry the spirit of worship into their schools, homes, and communities. 7. Supervision and Safety Policy: · To ensure the safety and well-being of all participants, the Youth Choir Director must never be alone with a student at any time. Any meeting, conversation, or instruction involving an individual student should take place in a public or easily observable area and in the presence of another approved adult. This practice reflects our church’s commitment to maintaining a safe, transparent, and accountable environment for all children and youth. 8. Evaluation, Reporting & Continuous Improvement · Track attendance, engagement, and spiritual growth of choir members. · Provide quarterly reports and updates to the Minister of Youth and Director of Worship & Arts regarding choir activities, highlights, and ministry needs. · Conduct periodic meetings with parents and volunteers to share updates and upcoming plans. · Participate in annual ministry evaluations to assess personal and program effectiveness. · Establish annual goals for growth in participation, skill development, and outreach impact. Minimum Qualifications • Five (5) or more years of successful church music ministry experience., • Excellent aural and musical skills., • Ability to teach and lead a wide range of musical genres., • Successful completion of a background check in accordance with church policies., • Completion of the church’s Reducing the Risk training program for volunteers and staff working with youth (required every three years). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Ability to encourage all interested youth to participate, regardless of skill level., • Passion for youth ministry and worship leadership., • Ability to encourage and include youth of all skill levels., • Commitment to creating opportunities for musical training and personal growth., • Strong communication and organizational skills., • Ability to mentor and motivate youth in faith and excellence., • Skill in identifying potential youth leaders and providing opportunities for them to develop leadership roles within the music ministry., • Proficiency with worship planning tools, digital communication platforms, and music technology., • Interpersonal and pastoral care skills to work effectively with youth, parents, and ministry teams., • Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and unity across all campuses., • A heart for ministry that prioritizes spiritual transformation over performance perfection.
