Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: OR - Operating Room, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 09/15/2025, • Duration: 3 weeks, • 40 hours per week, • Shift: 8 hours, days Job Summary: • The Clinical Nurse II (Operating Room OR Med Surg) – Perioperative role means that the nurse is responsible for providing direct patient care in line with the Nurse Practice Act (the legal framework governing nursing practice) specifically within a perioperative setting. Core Meaning: • This nurse takes care of patients before, during, and after surgery or procedures., • They ensure patient safety, monitor conditions, and assist physicians and surgical teams., • The scope covers all phases of perioperative nursing (pre-op, intra-op, and post-op). Areas of Work: The role spans multiple specialized units where surgical or procedural care happens: • CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room): Specializing in heart and vascular surgeries., • Cath Lab: Assisting with cardiac catheterization procedures., • Operating Room (OR): Direct involvement in general surgical procedures., • Recovery Room / PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit): Monitoring patients waking up from anesthesia., • Pre-Admission Testing: Preparing patients medically and administratively before surgery., • Pre/Post Unit: Care for patients immediately before and after surgery., • HOI (Hoag Orthopedic Institute) Units: Includes Pre-Op, OR, Recovery Room/PACU, and Surgery Center — all focused on orthopedic surgeries. Job Responsibilities: • The nurse collaborates with other disciplines of the health care team to ensure the delivery of safe, timely and appropriate quality patient care., • This includes providing physical assessments, nursing interventions, pain management, medication administrations, specimen collection, meeting nutritional needs, and teaching and discharge needs of the patients assigned., • Utilizes the nursing process based on evidence-based best practices to meet patient care needs., • Evaluates and adjusts the nursing care process as necessary with consultation as needed and confers with the appropriate resource personnel when making ethical/legal/medical dilemma decisions., • Performs other duties as assigned., • Additionally, the Clinical Nurse II meets the requirements outlined in the Clinical Ladder program respective to his/her department., • The Clinical Nurse III demonstrates a commitment to hospital involvement and professional growth by participating in committees, attending related meetings, and presenting education projects and/or supplemental activities. Required Skills & Experience: • Recent completion of the Hoag Perioperative Training Program. Required Education: • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Required Certifications & Licensure: • Registered Nurse in the State of California - Current and in good standing., • Current BLS certification prior to clinical rotation., • CVOR: ACLS required within 6 months of hire.
