No more than 6 hours per day, plus complete a self-reflection project and present it during the last week of the internship. Currently a 1 - 2 semester limit. HOURLY PAY: $15/hr stipend (No taxes withheld) WHEN WORK HAPPENS: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM unless instructed differently by your SEL Teacher/Advisor/Mentor Contact Name above. Summary of Position The Distance Learning Assistant (DLA) is a bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish individual who assists adult learners with technology needs related to online classes. In the context of distance education for adult learners, the DLA will provide technical assistance to support adult Spanish -speaking learners as they learn to engage in virtual classes including ESL, Citizenship, Computer, Business, Financial Literacy, Nutrition and Home Health Aide Certification. The DLA's work is similar to helping a parent or grandparent take classes and communicate online using a laptop, tablet and/or cellphone. DLAs work primarily in collaboration with the class instructor to support students during and outside of class time. They work under the direct guidance and supervision of the Digital Equity Manager, who oversees their training, responsibilities, and ongoing support. Hard Skills ● Enrolled in High School or GED ● Provide real-time technical support during virtual sessions. ● Offer asynchronous tech support for homework and independent learning. ● Assist instructors with tracking attendance and assignment completion. ● Bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English. ● Strong digital literacy and ability to explain basic tech concepts clearly. ● Familiarity with digital devices: smartphones, tablets, laptops, Chromebooks. ● Proficiency with digital and communication tools: ○ Google Suite (Classroom, Meet, Docs, etc.) ○ WhatsApp, email, and other communication tools. ● Maintain accurate records (attendance, assignments, communication logs). Soft Skills ● Strong written and oral communication skills ● Organized student with a positive attitude, curiosity, and willingness to learn ● Attention to work rules and deadlines ● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (especially in Spanish). ● Organized, responsive, and able to work independently. ● Reliability and punctuality (present for all assigned class times). ● Ability to collaborate regularly with instructors and educational program staff. ● Create a supportive, patient, and respectful learning environment for adults. ● Willingness to participate in occasional team or administrative meetings. You will also be required to sign and upload a W-9 and Parental Permission form. In addition, you will be required to electronically acknowledge Non-Disclosure and Internship agreements.
