Job DescriptionDescription: Position Summary The duties and responsibilities will be carried out to provide support to the Teacher, Center Administrator, program staff, and assist in the delivery of services to ensure a safe and healthy environment for children 0-5 at all times. The Floater is responsible for assisting in multiple functions throughout the facility including developing and implementing a program of activities that promotes the social, emotional and physical development of each child enrolled in a group in accordance with Head Start Program Performance Standards, Texas Child Care Minimum Standards and NAEYC Standards. Working Conditions and Physical Demands The work environment is that which is typical of a classroom setting. The noise level is usually moderate. Working in an Early Childhood Center setting requires the ability to maintain physical condition and stamina appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include standing for extended periods of time, interacting with co-workers, visitors, children, etc. Frequently requires lifting of children or movement of classroom equipment such as tables, chairs, etc. Occasional use of upper extremities to press against equipment, furniture, etc., up to 30 pounds with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward, or outward. Requires occasional use of upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul or tug objects up to 30 pounds in a sustained motion. Raising objects up to 50 pounds from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position is occasionally required. Regularly required to use upper extremities including reaching with hands and arms to move classroom supplies, files, documents, etc. from a lower to higher position. Occasionally required to bend legs to rest on the knees, bend the body downward and forward by bending legs and spine (at the waist), move about on hands and knees or hands and feet. Frequently required to communicate information or instructions to co-workers, visitors, parents, peers, management, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator. Working evenings, weekends, and holidays as required in order to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Normal to heavy travel required to attend activities such as meetings, classes, and workshops in and out of the service area. Must be able to travel by air as necessary to attend training, conference, and related activities. Essential Functions Job Function • Assist the Teacher (as needed) within the classrooms by completing daily indoor/outdoor reports, meal counts, daily activity sheets, etc., • Assist in the daily sanitation of the classrooms and facility including making cleaning solution daily, cleaning classrooms after children’s meals, at the end of the day, and maintaining sanitation logs., • Maintain all laundry as needed within the center including washing folding, sorting, and distributing to classrooms on a daily or weekly basis., • Participate in staff meetings and trainings as required., • Assist the Teacher (as needed) in maintaining records on each child’s progress and development for the purpose of planning and compliance with Head Start Program Performance Standards. (Maintains daily attendance of children and staff in each classroom)., • Responsible for assisting the teacher (as needed) with the full implementation of Head Start, NAEYC, Texas Childcare Licensing performance standards, policies and procedures, regulations and guidelines in the day-to-day operation of an early childhood development center (6 weeks -5 years of age) including developmentally appropriate practices for an Early Head Start and Head Start programs. Implements daily lesson plans for assigned curriculum as needed., • Maintain a well-organized, safe and attractive classroom environment conducive to the optimal growth and development of children. Supports the Social and Emotional development of children. Observe each child daily to assess skills, interests, and needs and use this information to facilitate learning and growth., • Ensure each child’s personal hygiene is maintained including but not limited to diaper changing, changing of clothes, hand washing, and feeding of infants on demand when necessary., • Assist the teacher in conducting home visits and parent conference (as needed) and work cooperatively and effectively as a team member., • Assist Teacher (when needed) in planning and implementing the daily program of activities based on principles of early child development and in accordance with the program’s curriculum. Assist in creating interactive parent-child activity materials., • Establish a positive relationship with each child’s family and ensure good Customer Service to participants, staff and community partners., • Maintain all certifications such as CPR as required to meet job requirements., • Must be able to travel locally to attend meetings, trainings, events, etc. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance in compliance with AVANCE-Houston policies and/or procedures, local, state, and federal laws., • Required: High School Diploma or GED must be earned from a state accredited or federally recognized education program. Experience • Preferred: At least Six (6) month work experience with children Birth to Five years old or experience in an Early Childhood setting. Other • Required: Obtain CPR/ First Aid Certification in infants, toddlers and preschool., • Required: Obtain Learn2Serve Certification, • Preferred: Bilingual English/Spanish
