Job Description INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE MANAGER JOB SUMMARY Responsible for managing Building Science and Industrial Hygiene projects and fieldwork, including hazard assessments, exposure monitoring, and environmental health consulting. Provides leadership in regulatory compliance, client communication, and innovative solutions for workplace and building environments. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS • Conduct asbestos-related work activities: inspection and bulk sample collection, abatement oversight, air monitoring, and air clearance sampling, • Conduct lead-based paint-related work activities: inspections/risk assessments and sampling, abatement oversight, dust wipe/air clearance sampling, and report writing, • Conduct IAQ and mold-related work activities: initial inspection and investigations, environmental sampling, remediation oversight, and pre/post-remediation air clearance sampling, • Conduct industrial hygiene investigations and monitoring events to evaluate potential exposure to contaminants or hazards: sample calibration, setup of air monitoring equipment, observation and documentation of employee work practices and procedures, • Perform chemical exposure assessments, noise monitoring, and ergonomic evaluations, • Develop exposure control strategies and implement OSHA compliance audits, hazard communication programs, and respiratory protection program development, • Train/mentor field personnel in all field tasks to complete project scopes of work, • Manage project budgeting and estimating, scheduling, project administration and setup, field activities, data interpretation, client interaction, and project momentum, • Identify changes to the scope of work, communicate to Senior Manager and client, and execute change orders if necessary, • Perform regulatory and technical research as needed to support a project, • Evaluate, select, schedule, and manage subcontractors, • Communicate with clients on projects, from beginning to end, • Prepare a Health and Safety Plan (HASP) or Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), review and enforce plans, and site safety with all persons at the work site, • Document all field activities being performed, • Prepare and write final project reports for senior review, • Prepare job descriptions of completed projects and update August Mack resume, • Knowledge of asbestos, mold, radon, lead, indoor air quality, and industrial hygiene, • Knowledge of NIOSH, ACGIH, and EPA guidelines; proficiency with real-time monitoring equipment; ability to analyze exposure trends using digital tools, • Recognize hazards inherent to the environmental work and safety measures, • Learn job-related material primarily through verbal instruction, training, reading, researching, and observation in an on-the-job setting Education: A.S. or B.S. in geology, engineering, chemistry, environmental science, or related field OR GED with significant relevant experience in the industry Recommended Experience: 5+ years experience in Building Sciences and Industrial Hygiene related consulting Certifications: Asbestos Building Inspector; Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor; Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, & Restoration Certification (IICRC) Mold Remediation or Water Restoration Certifications; OSHA 40 hours Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) Certification (40 hours) or General Industry 10 or 30 Hour Certifications are a plus; Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred Skills: Strong computer and verbal/written communication skills are a must Additional requirements: Must be physically capable of operating vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license, have an acceptable driving record, and receive a medical clearance from a baseline physical This classification requires travel to various client locations. Travel typically involves day trips within the state or neighboring states, resulting in longer workdays; and may include extended and/or further travel, resulting in multiple days and overnights. This position is responsible for performing building sprinkler inspections including testing devices, recording and generating results, and providing reports. Duties include assisting both the Lead Inspector and/or Inspection Manager in collecting data and generating any necessary paperwork (Sprinkler Inspection Reports, Quick Reports, and Inspection Certificates). Essential Duties & Responsibilities: * Ensure that all inspections are completed on a timely basis and that inspections are done accurately and thoroughly. * Testing of all building sprinkler control panels, devices, and functions of the sprinkler system and entering the test results into the Palm handheld device. * Upon completion of an inspection download the information and generate a completed Sprinkler Inspection Report. * Participate in monthly team meetings. * Perform other duties assigned by management. Education/Qualification: * High School diploma or equivalent is required. * Study and learn NFPA standards for the inspection and testing of fire protection systems. Stay current with code requirements, and industry changes, and obtain NICET certifications. * Capable of performing minor repairs, hydrostatic testing, and pressure testing on sprinkler systems in accordance with safety and code compliance standard. * Must demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills and be customer service oriented. * Must be able and willing to work within a team environment. * Sprinkler experience is required * Proficiency in using test equipment including sensitivity test equipment, multi-meters, battery analyzers, sound level meters, and communicating devices. * Need good networking PC skills including use of Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and use of Palm unit operating systems. * Must be punctual. Being on time is critical due to the need to perform sound tests prior to building tenant arrivals. Physical Requirements: * Industrial, Commercial, & Residential building environment with moderate to high noise levels, and comfort with working at heights * Mostly a physically demanding role.
