Job Description POSITION OBJECTIVE/SUMMARY: The Occupational Therapist serves as a facilitator of Occupational Therapy activities both in and out-patient services. As an integral part of the treatment team, the Occupational Therapist works collaboratively with other team members to plan the special occupational and activity needs of clients who display a wide variety of mental, emotional, behavioral, psychomotor and perceptual problems. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION: • Graduate from an occupational therapy curriculum accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE)., • Current license or a limited permit for license issued by the California Board of Occupational Therapy as an Occupational Therapist., • Previous experience in a psychiatric healthcare environment preferred., • Good verbal and written communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of management and associates while building strong relationships., • Must have the ability to problem solve, meet deadlines and follow through on work assignments in a fast paced work environment., • The ability to work overtime and/or additional days as needed. GENERAL STATEMENT OF FUNCTIONS: • Reviews physicians' referrals for occupational therapy services and utilizes information obtained from clients’ records relative to their medical history, social and emotional disorders and prognoses in order to select appropriate evaluation procedures for identifying clients' functional limitations/disabilities/problems and their level of performance., • Administers a variety of evaluation tests to assess the nature and extent of impaired function, capacities and limitations such as range of motion, muscle coordination, cognition, developmental stage and life roles., • Performs evaluation procedures to determine clients' performance capacities and deficits such as functional, cognitive, visual and perceptual abilities; assesses clients' interests, goals, environment, and psychological and emotional conditions, including interpersonal, • Analyzes evaluation test results to establish realistic treatment goals, predict anticipated level of functioning and time to achieve it; plans and develops sequential treatment programs; assesses clients' progress; communicates test results and measurements to physicians, members of treatment team, and clients' families; develops and modifies initial and subsequent treatment programs consistent with the changing needs of the client., • Selects treatment methods and techniques that are compatible with clients' needs and capacities by assigning activities of interest which will develop desired motions, responses, attitudes, behaviors, or mental function; treatment programs may include individual and group activities such as manual arts, crafts, games, music, exercises, and sensory-motor integration, and practice in functional, pre-vocational, homemaking skills and activities of daily living., • Performs complex treatment modalities, interventions, and techniques requiring special precautionary measures such as post-operative activities, manual stretching, positioning extremities with splints and braces designed to prevent or correct deformities, and special facilitation techniques to increase muscle strength and develop control and coordination., • Confers with physicians, interdisciplinary treatment team, and families regarding evaluation, treatment, progress and disposition of patients; makes recommendations such as for splinting and bracing, and considers suggestions made by physicians and others., • Coordinates client treatment and results with other professionals and agencies such as physicians, nurses, social workers, rehabilitation and school personnel, families and vendors to provide total care to the patient., • Supervises client treatments and procedures delegated to other occupational therapy staff and student occupational therapists interns and provides technical guidance on problem cases., • Supervises, maintains, and/or modifies clients' treatment plan and documents progress notes relative to the therapy., • Participates in continuing education/staff development programs and other medical facility, departmental, and professional licensing requirements as directed., • Practices confidentiality in all client, employee, and management related matters., • Participates in the fundraising activities of Kedren., • Practices loyalty and commitment to the philosophy, goals and objectives of Kedren Community Health Center, Inc., • Assist in other job duties as required. Competencies: • Assessment – Conducts a comprehensive, collaborative, unbiased clinical assessment, which involves individuals, family members and community service providers to develop coordinated therapeutic intervention plans., • Client Focus – Identifies, analyzes, and implements evidence-based therapeutic interventions designed to achieve client goals; using research and technological advances; evaluating program outcomes and practice effectiveness; developing, analyzing, advocating and providing leadership for policies and services; and promoting social and economic justice., • Collaboration – Develops cooperation and teamwork while participating in a group, working toward counseling and solutions that generally benefits all involved parties with the client as the primary focus (if involved)., • Communication Effectiveness – Clearly conveys information and ideas through a variety of media to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain the message., • Documentation – Writes clear, concise medical record notes (e.g., focus on referral problem, functional changes, duration, acute or long-term, functional impairment, recommendations, plan of action, results, adjustments, etc.)., • Facilitation – Leads group to intended results while allowing adequate discussion, brings group back to the meeting’s purpose or goal when needed, and gains input of ideas from all participants., • Mental Health/Psychiatry Knowledge – Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of mental health, mental illness and mental health services; integrates knowledge of societal, cultural, psychological, environment, spiritual and belief systems that influence mental health and illness., • Plan of Care – Creates concrete therapeutic strategies, counseling and activities to implement to tackle mental disorders and associated disability; specifies the targets to be achieved and clarifies the roles of stakeholders in implementing the mental health plan., • Service Focus – Balances interests and needs of a variety of internal customers and clients; adjusts priorities to respond to pressing and changing demands.
