Manager, Civil Engineering Swift Current Energy, a renewable energy project developer, owner, and operator (“Swift Current” or the “Company”) is seeking a Manager of Civil Engineering to act as an internal subject matter expert regarding civil drawings and studies for utility scale renewable energy project. The Company has primary offices in Boston, MA; Houston, TX; and Yarmouth, ME, with plans to expand our Texas presence to Austin. This role is ideally based in an office, with periodic travel to project sites and Company offices as required. That said, we are open to considering candidates based anywhere in the continental U.S., for the right fit. The Manager, Civil Engineering will lead the development, review, and execution of civil engineering scopes for utility-scale renewable energy projects, including solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and wind generation facilities and Data Centers. This role ensures designs are optimized for performance, cost, constructability, and long-term reliability while meeting regulatory and permitting requirements. The Manager, Civil Engineering will work with an experienced team comprised of project developers, finance, transmission, procurement, construction, environmental and permitting specialists, project managers, EPC Contractors, and Engineers of Record as the project team collaborates to create, review, finance, implement, and test designs for utility-scale Solar PV, Wind, Energy Storage and Data Center projects. Key Responsibilities Project Development & Design Oversight • Lead and own the civil engineering scope across all project phases, from site screening through construction, financing, and operations., • Oversee preparation and review of civil design packages, including grading plans, drainage design, road layouts, and foundation concepts, considering project specific conditions and long-term ownership., • Ensure alignment between civil design, electrical layout, financing requirements, and overall plant construction and field operations (solar arrays, BESS pads, wind turbine foundations, substations, transmission lines and data center foundations)., • Commission, manage, and review all required civil engineering studies, including:, • Geotechnical investigations (soil borings, pile design parameters, bearing capacity, settlement analysis)., • Hydrology and hydraulic studies (watershed analysis, floodplain mapping, storm event modeling)., • Stormwater management design (detention/retention systems, drainage infrastructure, SWPPP compliance)., • Earthwork analysis (cut/fill balance, grading optimization, erosion control)., • Corrosion studies (soil corrosivity, grounding compatibility, material selection)., • Seismic assessments (site class determination, structural design inputs)., • Slope stability and erosion control evaluations., • Access roads and transportation studies (constructability and logistics)., • Foundation design, pile testing, and environmental (wind, snow, etc.) loads on all components, including PV module arrays., • Support EPC procurement and contracting by defining civil requirements, contractor scope, project specifications, and all civil and structural technical requirements., • Review contractor submittals, RFIs, and construction drawings for compliance with project standards, industry best practices, and SCE ownership strategy., • Provide technical oversight and leadership during construction, including issue identification and resolution, strategically-timed site visits, and design clarifications., • Develop and maintain civil engineering design standards, specifications, and best practices across projects., • Identify opportunities to optimize designs for cost savings, reduced earthwork, improved drainage performance, and constructability, coordinating with asset management and energy performance strategies for a broader view., • Coordinate with internal teams (electrical, structural, environmental, development, finance, construction) to ensure integrated project delivery., • Interface with external consultants, contractors, independent engineers, and regulatory agencies., • Support permitting efforts by ensuring civil deliverables meet jurisdictional requirements. The expected travel for this position is approximately 10-25% depending on active project and Company needs. Job responsibilities may evolve based on Company needs and individual career growth. This role reports to the Associate Director of Technology. Qualifications: • Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering (required), Master's degree in Civil Engineering (preferred), Professional Engineering license (preferred), • Minimum of 6 years' experience with civil design and execution for utility-scale renewable power plants (Solar, Wind, BESS)., • Strong experience driving civil and structural engineering disciplines and scopes for renewable energy projects (Solar/Wind/BESS) or data centers., • Proven experience overseeing geotechnical, hydrological, and stormwater design studies., • Experience setting up, running, and extracting results from civil design tools (AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS platforms, hydrology modeling software)., • Ability to interpret and review complex engineering studies and construction documents., • Strong understanding and functional engineering knowledge of: Site grading and Earthwork optimization; Drainage and stormwater design; Foundation design inputs (solar piles, BESS pads, wind turbine foundations), Floodplain and hydrology analysis; Soil mechanics, skin friction, pile testing and mitigations, and inform and scrutinize geotechnical interpretation;, • Current authorization to live and work in the U.S. Personal Characteristics: • Strong technical knowledge, with ability to apply to real-life problems, • Highly analytical and intellectually curious; seeking to grow, driven to solve complex problems, • Self-motivated with a personal drive to succeed; able to direct one’s own work flow and priorities, • Capable of working collaboratively and innovatively across a geographically dispersed team with different technical and commercial backgrounds and responsibilities., • Passion and excitement for the technical work that supports the renewable energy sector, • Strong written and verbal communication skills, • Highly organized and detail-oriented with exceptional task prioritization skills Additional Details: Swift Current provides a comprehensive salary and benefits package for full-time employees.
