Job Description Summary: The Histotechnician performs a variety of routine and complex histological procedures to prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination by a pathologist or scientist. This position requires a higher level of skill and independence, with responsibilities including advanced staining techniques, troubleshooting, and participation in quality control activities. Responsibilities: • Processes a wide variety of tissue specimens, including complex cases, ensuring proper fixation, processing, and embedding., • Performs routine and advanced microtomy techniques, including cutting various tissue types and troubleshooting cutting artifacts., • Performs routine Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) staining, as well as a range of special stains according to established protocols., • Prepares and maintains laboratory solutions, reagents, and stains, following established formulas and procedures., • Performs and documents routine and preventative maintenance on histology laboratory equipment, including microtomes, processors, and stainers., • Identifies and troubleshoots common technical problems related to tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining, taking appropriate corrective actions., • Participates actively in the laboratory's quality assurance and quality control programs, including monitoring control slides and documenting any deviations., • Assists in the training and orientation of new Histotechnician I staff and histology trainees., • Manages the inventory of histology supplies and reagents, ensuring adequate stock levels and may be responsible for ordering supplies as needed., • Accurately enters and retrieves data from the laboratory information system (LIS) for specimen tracking, test results, and quality control records., • Files and retrieves tissue blocks and slides according to laboratory procedures., • Adheres to all laboratory safety policies and procedures, including the proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials., • May assist pathologists with gross examination and frozen section procedures., • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working as a histotechnician in a laboratory setting, with demonstrated proficiency in routine and special staining techniques., • Strong knowledge of histology principles, techniques, and laboratory procedures., • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot technical issues and perform quality control procedures., • Proficiency in operating and maintaining histology laboratory equipment., • Experience with laboratory information systems (LIS)., • Excellent attention to detail, manual dexterity, and organizational skills., • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team., • Ability to stand and sit for extended periods., • Excellent fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination for precise specimen handling and equipment operation., • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally., • Normal or corrected vision, including color vision, to accurately assess tissue samples and staining quality.Benefits, • 100% coverage on employee health, vision and dental insurance, • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), • Retirement planning (401k), • Team building events outside of the office, • Strong compensation package l3hgAh5tjV
