Job Description OVERVIEW The General Accountant is responsible for general accounting and financial reporting and otherwise supports the efforts of Accounting and Finance, including performing general accounting journal entries, reconciling balance sheet accounts (including bank reconciliations), performing financial data analysis, preparing financial reports, and other accounting duties as assigned in support of the SVdP mission. Employees in this position should be able to apply fundamental accounting principles and practices to a variety of assigned financial accounting, budgeting, cost accounting, and other fiscal functions. Work is performed under general direction. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES General Accounting: • Prepares and records approved journal entries for payroll and related-monthly accruals, • Prepares and records approved journal entries for employee benefits, including self-insured medical, commercially insured dental, vision, 401(k), and other benefits, • Prepares and records approved journal entries for prepaid expenses, including analysis of amortization & reclassification, • Prepares and records approved journal entries for fixed assets and depreciation, • Prepares and records approved journal entries for Right of Use Asset (lease) accounting, • Prepares and records approved journal entries for all credit card purchases, and payments, • Prepares and records approved journal entries for all investment accounting, • Prepares and records approved journal entries for reclassification of donor restricted, Board Designated, and Management Designated funds, • Computes, prepares and records approved journal entries for allocations of overhead to operations, • Prepares and records other journal entries as assigned, • Performs monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including bank reconciliations, for assigned ledger accounts, • Assists Supervisor with cash flow and banking requirements such as fund transfers, • Other duties as assigned Financial Reporting: • Produces monthly accrual-based financial statements, • Assists Supervisor with monthly internal financial statement package, • Assists with external year-end financial, inventory, and tax audits as requested by Supervisor Compliance, Policies & Internal Controls: • Recommends workflow process improvements, • Assists Supervisor with special projects and workflow process improvements CORE VALUES AND COMPETENCIES The following values and competencies EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Business Accounting or Finance, • At least two (2) years of comprehensive accounting experience required, • Experience in Non-Profit sector preferred, • QuickBooks Desktop experience is strongly preferred.
