Job Description Job Description COMPENSATION: Pay Rate: $25.00–$27.00 per hour This represents the good faith estimate of the hourly wage range we reasonably expect to pay for this position upon hire, depending on factors such as the selected candidate's experience, training, education, job-related skills, internal equity, and operational needs. Additional information about our compensation scales is available at: SUMMARY: Performs a wide variety of semi-skilled work in the inspection, maintenance, alteration and repair of buildings, building components and equipment in Aztec Shops facilities at San Diego State University (SDSU), Imperial Valley Campus store, and Snapdragon Stadium, including nights and weekends as necessary based on event schedule; Tasks to include repairs and maintenance to HVAC, electrical, lighting, and plumbing systems, institutional food services kitchen equipment, residential housing, and corporate vehicles. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES DEPENDING ON LOCATION: NOTE: The duties listed below are examples of the variety and general nature of those performed by employees in this job description. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. * Cleans, maintains, makes simple repairs and performs routine scheduled preventative maintenance to building, building fixtures, and furnishings, including but not limited to, institutional food services kitchen equipment and appliances, including fryers, grills ovens, steamers, and cooktops, food processors, mixers, slicers, warmers, and dish machines. Also windows, doors, furniture, drains, flooring, wall covering and finishes and assists skilled tradesmen building technicians with more complex repairs of plumbing, HVAC and electrical systems. * Performs scheduled routine preventative maintenance (PM’s) for but not limited to, grease interceptors, fire extinguishers, Aztec Shops’ service and delivery vehicles, vans, and electric and gas powered golf carts. * Maintains and performs repairs to lock and latch mechanisms, door hardware, windows and screens. * Maintains and makes simple repairs to HVAC systems, including multi-zone, reheat and VAV systems. Performs routine scheduled preventative maintenance (PM’s) of filters, belts, cleaning & lubrication to, total dissolved solids (TDS) water treatment, recirculation pumps, motors, pneumatic controls, T-stats, PE switches and exhaust systems. * Maintains and makes simple repairs to electrical systems such as replacing switches and outlets, cover plates, simple light fixtures and ventilating fans, as well as light bulbs, light tubes, electronic ballast replacement, diffuser replacement and light sensors. * Ability to run electrical conduit such as rigid EMT, and armored flex cable to support skilled tradesmen for various facility needs. * Observes and practices all lock out tag out (LOTO) procedures. * Provides amperage checks to maintain accurate electrical loads from service panels. * Move utility lines with supervision of skilled tradesmen for food service equipment needs as required for gas, electrical, steam, steam condensate return and water supply. * Assists skilled tradesmen with complex jobs such as repair and installation of electrical lines and fixtures, plumbing systems, plaster and drywall repair with paint ready prep, and large area painting. * Assists in building plywood and laminate cabinets for use in various Aztec Shops departments. * Drive automotive vehicles & equipment in conjunction with accomplishments of assigned projects. * Transport materials and tools to and from job sites. * Requisition supplies. * Develops and maintains working relationships with customers, coworkers, vendors, student organizations, faculty, staff, and university personnel. * Must comply with and ensure continued, consistent compliance with all company policies, and federal, state, and local laws/regulations including but not limited to: employment, safety, and health. * Other duties as assigned. Job Requirements MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: The minimum requirement for applicants is a High School Diploma or a General Education Development (GED) degree plus at least two years of increasingly responsible experience resulting in tradesman level of skill in simple building and building systems repair; or any combination of training and experience as a maintenance or construction trades helper, laborer or apprentice. Additional or supplemental experience in one or more of the following specific trades is highly desirable: plumbing, HVAC, electrical, cabinetry & carpentry, metalworking, tile setting, painting and wall finishes, drywall, automotive/small engine repair. Working knowledge of common methods, practices, tools and materials used in building trades that are related to wood and metal work, electrical, HVAC and plumbing maintenance is required. This position may involve operating a company vehicle and/or golf cart on university or company property. As such, candidates must have a valid driver’s license and have not been issued more than three moving violations or have been responsible for more than three accidents (or any combination of more than three thereof during the past 12-month period). Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and will be required to provide proof of driving eligibility upon hire. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must be able to read, write and understand English. Requires the ability to read, interpret and work from plans, drawings and specifications. Requires the ability to verbally communicate in a professional, concise and descriptive manner. Requires the ability to follow verbal and written instructions, guidelines and objectives. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Requires the ability to make simple arithmetic computations such as extension of material and prices, calculate areas and columns of regular shapes, calculate square footages, find the sum of negative numbers and convert between fractional and decimal measurements. REASONING ABILITY: Requires the ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out general written or oral instructions. Must be able to multi-task, prioritize work and pay attention to detail. MANUAL DEXTERITY: Must be able to utilize a computer. Requires the ability to use and identify a variety of materials and tools used in miscellaneous building and repair work, equipment maintenance. PHYSICAL COMMUNICATION: Must have the ability to talk/expressing and/or exchanging ideas and hear/perceiving sounds. to allow for normal and emergency communication between individuals and adequate perception of audible warning devices. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Physical demand requirements are at levels for active work. Must be able to lift equipment components, parts and machinery. Frequent standing, bending, stooping and/or walking/moving is required. Requires the ability to handle or feel objects, building/electrical materials, or repair tools and materials and reach. Must be able to use body members to work, move and lift or carry heavy objects, equipment or materials up to 50 pounds. Specific visual abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral visions, distance vision, and color vision for reading and interpretation of instruction manuals, work orders, data plated and color coded wiring found in normal 110v and 220v wiring (white, black, red and green). WORKING CONDITIONS AND HAZARDS Work is regularly performed in confined spaces such as tunnels, closets, shafts and trenches that may be dimly lit with exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes and airborne particles. There is some risk of occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and gasses, loud noises with exposure to varying weather conditions, dust and allergens and work temperatures. This position will also be working at Snapdragon Stadium as needed. There may be exposure to loud noises while working at Snapdragon Stadium such as crowd cheering, fireworks, announcements, food fumes, alcohol fumes, or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate on non-event days and moderate to loud on event days. This position requires on-site presence due to the scope of the duties, and it would not be eligible for remote work. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: Candidates must be available to work a flexible schedule based on operational needs.
