Job DescriptionJob Title: Diesel Mechanic – Road / Field Mechanic Job Description This field-based Diesel Mechanic (Road Mechanic) role focuses on performing preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a wide range of rental equipment at customer job sites. You work independently in varied environments to ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently, minimizing downtime and supporting customers’ operations in the field. Responsibilities • Perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on rental equipment at customer job sites and in the field., • Troubleshoot hydraulic and electrical systems to identify and resolve issues efficiently., • Carry out preventive maintenance to ensure optimal performance and reliability of equipment., • Respond promptly and professionally to service calls, often working independently in remote or outdoor locations., • Inspect equipment to ensure it operates safely and meets performance standards before returning it to service., • Document work performed, including diagnostics, repairs, and parts used, in an accurate and timely manner., • Communicate clearly with customers to explain issues, repair status, and equipment readiness., • Collaborate with internal teams to coordinate parts, scheduling, and follow-up service as needed., • Maintain tools, service truck, and equipment in clean, safe, and proper working condition., • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures while working in the field and in the shop., • Work on a variety of equipment, including aerial work platforms, general construction tools, and specialty equipment such as power generators, pumps, HVAC systems, and oil and gas equipment.Essential Skills, • 3–5 years of mechanic experience, preferably with diesel, heavy equipment, or specialty equipment., • Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems, including the ability to diagnose and repair hydraulic issues., • Strong knowledge of electrical systems and the ability to troubleshoot electrical faults., • Proven ability to independently troubleshoot and repair mechanical issues in the field., • Experience performing preventive maintenance on diesel and heavy equipment., • Comfort working in fast-paced, changing environments and adapting to different job sites., • Ability to work safely in outdoor and remote job site conditions., • Mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in equipment maintenance and repair., • High school diploma or GED., • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record., • Clear, professional communication skills for interacting with customers and internal teams., • Strong focus on safety and adherence to safety procedures at all times.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience servicing aerial work platforms and general construction tools and equipment., • Experience working on specialty equipment such as power generators, pumps, HVAC systems, and oil and gas equipment., • Trade school education or equivalent technical training in diesel, automotive, or heavy equipment maintenance (preferred)., • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) may be required in some locations., • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize multiple service calls., • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in diagnostics and repair., • Comfort using service documentation and maintenance records systems.Why Work Here? Work Environment This role follows a Monday through Friday schedule, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You primarily work out of a shop environment and travel to customer job sites as needed. The position involves working both indoors in the shop and outdoors at various field locations, including remote job sites and changing weather conditions. You handle and service equipment such as aerial work platforms, general construction tools, power generators, pumps, HVAC systems, and oil and gas equipment. The work environment is fast-paced and safety-focused, with a strong emphasis on proper use of tools, equipment, and safe work practices. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Jose, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.
