Job Description Job Title: Quality Control Chemist Job Description This role focuses on performing wet chemistry and physical testing on in-process chemical samples, ranging from raw materials to finished DEET products, using standardized methods. The quality control chemist conducts analyses using advanced analytical instruments, interprets and reports test data to production and quality teams, and helps maintain high standards of product quality and regulatory compliance in a fast-paced laboratory environment. Responsibilities • Perform wet chemistry analyses and physical testing on in-process chemical samples, including raw materials and finished DEET products, using documented standard techniques., • Conduct analytical testing using instruments such as HPLC, GC, Flame AA, Karl Fischer, refractive index, specific gravity, and titration equipment (manual and automated) with confidence and accuracy., • Interpret, calculate, and record test data in LabWorks, ensuring all results are accurately documented and traceable., • Report test results promptly to production and other relevant personnel to support real-time decision-making in the manufacturing process., • Alert production and quality management immediately when suspect test data, out-of-specification results, or other deviations from normal trends are identified., • Operate and monitor analytical equipment as instructed by laboratory management, following all standard operating procedures., • Prepare laboratory reagents, standards, and mobile phases according to established protocols and instructions from lab management., • Follow Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and laboratory safety procedures while handling chemicals, samples, and equipment., • Work independently with minimal supervision, managing workload in a high-volume testing environment that completes approximately 120 tests per shift., • Collaborate with chemical operators and other lab personnel in the in-process lab to ensure timely and accurate testing of products directly from production., • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant laboratory workspace and support continuous improvement of testing practices and documentation. Essential Skills • Hands-on experience with wet chemistry techniques, including pH measurement, viscosity testing, and titrations (manual and automated)., • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting GC and HPLC systems in a quality control or analytical laboratory setting., • Experience using analytical instruments such as Flame AA, Karl Fischer, refractive index, and specific gravity measurement equipment., • Strong background in analytical chemistry and quality control testing within a laboratory or chemical manufacturing environment., • Ability to perform QC testing, interpret analytical data, and identify anomalies or deviations from expected results., • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for data entry, reporting, and documentation., • Experience working under GMP or similar regulated environments, following standardized methods and procedures., • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions based on test results., • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, high-throughput laboratory., • Comfort working with laboratory information management systems such as LabWorks or similar platforms. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Associate degree in Chemistry or another science discipline preferred; a four-year degree is not required., • Experience performing wet chemistry in a chemical manufacturing facility is highly desirable., • Experience with quality control testing of chemical products, particularly in-process testing, is an advantage., • Familiarity with GC/MS and other advanced analytical techniques is beneficial., • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and data integrity., • Ability to quickly learn and understand a large number of standardized test methods (300+ methods)., • Effective communication skills to interact with production, quality, and laboratory teams., • Interest in a long-term opportunity that may transition from contract to full-time based on business needs. Work Environment The role is based in an in-process laboratory within a chemical manufacturing facility that handles products directly from chemical operators. The lab uses older equipment that has been updated with modern testing capabilities and follows strictly standardized methods aligned with regulatory requirements, with no research and development activities. The work setting emphasizes adherence to GMP, laboratory safety practices, and consistent, high-quality analytical testing, offering the potential for long-term employment depending on the performance of the DEET product line. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Greensboro, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $27.00/hr.
