Job DescriptionDescription: Position Title: Logistics & Transportation Manager Reports To: SVP-Operations, Cayuga Marketing FLSA Status: Exempt Job Grade: 8 Pay Range: $85,000 - $122,000 Position Overview: The Logistics & Transportation Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the movement of raw milk and dairy by-products from farm to customer plants, ensuring efficient, cost-effective, and compliant operations. This role combines transportation planning, truck and trailer fleet oversight, customer and member service, industry compliance, and data-driven performance tracking. The ideal candidate is a logistics professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities, enjoys problem-solving, and has the ability to balance customer, member, and regulatory requirements while optimizing load efficiency and profitability. This role requires scheduled availability during off-hours to support the 24/7/365 nature of raw milk supply. Key Responsibilities Logistics & Transportation Management • Manage the daily logistics related to scheduling haulers, customers’ orders, and member’s needs., • Oversite of weekly orders and weekly hauling schedule to assign loads for delivery and communications with the haulers., • Partner with third-party carriers to ensure on-time pickup and delivery, addressing issues such as delays, load weight discrepancy, driver & dispatch performance, and scheduling challenges., • Adjust schedules and shipment plans in response to supply chain changes, weather, traffic, or customer needs., • Monitor transportation costs, optimize truckload efficiency, and identify cost-saving opportunities., • Manage all aspects of ownership of the tractor and trailer fleet, including maintenance, fleet records, compliance documentation, fuel purchases, and payable tracking., • Oversite of Lot 4, truck terminal facility, fuel station, and truck/trailer shop & wash operations., • Ensure compliance with NY Ag & Markets regulations, food safety, and industry standards., • Ensure compliance with State and Federal DOT regulations and State DMV regulations., • Maintain accurate and timely records of shipments, customer transactions, and logistics data in company systems (APPX and Mobile Milk Manager)., • Oversite of all costs incurred and opportunities for cost savings in relation to the operations of Lot 4 and Truck Terminal operations., • Oversite of the Mobile Milk Manager system, including development of program improvements., • Provide scheduled reports and KPI tracking for management, haulers, and customers., • Serve as primary point of contact for farmer members, haulers, plants, and customers regarding scheduling, logistics, and service issues., • Communicate scheduling changes, delays, or customer/hauler concerns promptly and professionally., • Assist with customer orders, reporting, and resolution of service issues., • Collaborate with Cayuga plant operations and haulers for operational improvements., • Cover assigned duties for supervisor or colleagues during absences., • Support special projects and continuous improvement initiatives within the Milk Division. Education & Experience · Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Logistics, Business, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered. · 5+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, or supply chain (food & beverage or agricultural industry strongly preferred). · Experience in the dairy industry, particularly raw milk farm to plant trucking operations. · Experience managing inbound/outbound logistics and working with third-party carriers. · Customer-facing or supplier-facing experience required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities · Strong understanding of logistics, trucking, and transportation operations. · Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word). · Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines. · Excellent written and verbal communication skills. · Problem-solving mindset; calm and tactful under pressure. · Strong data analysis and reporting skills. · Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive business and member information. Physical Requirements: · Ability to navigate all areas of the facility, including office spaces, warehouse areas, and the exterior perimeter. · Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary to safely perform job duties. · Ability to stand, sit, and carry out tasks throughout a full shift, with appropriate meal breaks. · Physically capable of standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, and crouching as needed. · Able to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds independently and heavier objects with reasonable accommodation. · Visual acuity is sufficient to perform job duties accurately. · Capable of assessing weights, judging distances, and working at various heights. Work Schedule: · Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM. Potential for a hybrid situation (office and remote). · Flexibility required for scheduled evenings, weekends, or holidays to support 24/7 milk supply operations. · Flexibility required to attend industry functions.
