Job Description ENGLEWOOD ORTHOPEDIC ASSOCIATES JOB DESCRIPTION Department: Physician Assistant Title: Orthopedic Physician Assistant – Assistant Surgeon- Per Diem Supervision Received: Practice Administrator/Collaborating Physician Position Summary: We are seeking a skilled and motivated Physician Assistant (PA) to serve as an Assistant Surgeon on a per diem basis. The PA will work under the supervision of the attending surgeon to provide intraoperative assistance, perioperative patient care, and support surgical teams across various specialties. This role is ideal for a flexible provider who thrives in a fast-paced surgical environment. Responsibilities: • Provide direct intraoperative assistance, including retraction, suturing, hemostasis, tissue handling, and other surgical tasks as directed by the surgeon., • Assist with preoperative and postoperative patient care, including patient evaluations, documentation, and coordination of care., • Participate in pre-surgical preparation, ensuring sterile technique and proper instrumentation., • Conduct patient histories and physical exams as needed., • Order and interpret diagnostic studies within scope of practice., • Provide education and counseling to patients and families regarding surgical procedures, recovery, and follow-up care., • Collaborate with the surgical, nursing, and anesthesia teams to ensure safe and efficient patient care., • Document patient encounters, operative reports, and postoperative progress in accordance with hospital and regulatory requirements., • Maintain compliance with institutional protocols, state, and federal regulations. Qualifications: • Current Physician Assistant license in NJ, • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)., • Current DEA license, • Current CDS, • BLS and ACLS certifications required., • Prior surgical experience preferred; experience in orthopedics, general surgery is a plus., • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a high-acuity environment. Schedule & Compensation: • Per diem position – hours based on surgical case volume and departmental needs. (Flexibility required), • Competitive compensation commensurate with experience.
