Job DescriptionJob Title: Senior Scientist – Mass Spectrometry Job Description This Senior Scientist role offers the opportunity to work in a cutting-edge mass spectrometry laboratory, developing advanced mass spectrometry–based methods for biotherapeutic product characterization and molecular analysis across all stages of development. You will design and implement innovative analytical approaches that support a diverse research and development pipeline, helping to solve complex challenges in the discovery, development, and manufacturing of biotherapeutic products. Responsibilities • Design, execute, and clearly communicate targeted and untargeted small-molecule and elemental analyses on cell culture media and drug molecules using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS), gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), and inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) to support development of biotherapeutic products such as monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), bispecifics, siRNAs, and AAVs., • Provide analytical support for cross-functional teams, including discovery, process development, formulation development, and manufacturing, to address and solve drug development challenges., • Independently perform sample preparation and mass spectrometry analyses, ensuring high-quality and reproducible data generation., • Document experimental procedures, data, and results thoroughly and accurately in the electronic laboratory notebook (ELN)., • Serve as a subject matter expert in analytical and bioanalytical mass spectrometry on project teams, offering scientific guidance and strategic input., • Present experimental results, interpretations, and recommendations at internal and external meetings in a clear and compelling manner., • Contribute to the development and optimization of new analytical methods and technologies to enhance biotherapeutic characterization capabilities., • Collaborate closely with team members in analytical development to support protein mass spectrometry (LC-MS) applications throughout the drug development lifecycle.Essential Skills, • MS degree in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field with 5+ years of relevant experience, or a PhD in a related field with 0–2+ years of experience., • Extensive experience with advanced mass spectrometry, including hands-on operation, troubleshooting, and data interpretation., • Demonstrated expertise in method development and analysis using LC-MS, ICP-MS, or GC-MS., • Strong background in small molecule characterization, including accurate mass measurement, isotope pattern analysis, and MS/MS fragmentation., • Proven ability to independently perform sample preparation and mass spectrometry analyses in a laboratory setting., • Experience documenting experiments and results in an electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) with a high level of detail and compliance., • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly present complex scientific data and conclusions to diverse audiences., • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced research and development environment.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience with extended characterization of monoclonal antibodies by mass spectrometry to support product and process development., • Familiarity with analytical development workflows in support of biotherapeutic drug development., • Experience working with liquid handlers or other automated sample preparation systems., • Prior involvement in analytical support for discovery, process development, formulation development, or manufacturing teams., • Strong problem-solving skills and a track record of developing innovative analytical solutions., • Interest in contributing to a growing organization with significant expansion plans and long-term career growth opportunities., • Appreciation for working in an environment where all drug candidates are invented and developed in-house, with a robust portfolio of approved medicines.Work Environment This is a full-time, onsite bench and laboratory role in an analytical development group focused on protein mass spectrometry (LC-MS) throughout the drug development process. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, approximately 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You will work in a modern, well-equipped mass spectrometry lab that utilizes technologies such as LC-MS, GC-MS, ICP-MS, MS/MS, and liquid handling systems. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $60.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
