We are seeking a new Trustee who can offer constructive challenge and strategic oversight to secure the financial resilience and forward-thinking growth needed to strengthen our charitable work. This role is essential in enabling our core mission to serve and show love to our communities, ensuring everyone can feel hopeful, connected, and empowered to make a difference. Our strong and vibrant Trustee Board aims to broaden its skill base to ensure we are well-prepared for the future. Your extensive experience in finance and strategic risk management is vital. Our ideal candidate will be able to provide insightful guidance to the delivery of our strategic objectives, particularly those relating to achieving financial security and growing our mission-driven social enterprises. As a valued member of the Board committed to delivering excellence, you will lead our financial oversight and governance. The Honorary Treasurer role will require a particular focus on the following key areas: • Becoming a Trustee of the Board and providing high-level financial governance and oversight., • Driving Financial Security and sustainability in line with our 2025 & Beyond Strategy., • Working alongside the CEO, Director of Finance and Senior Leadership Team to:, • Oversee the financial performance and robust controls for our expanding social enterprises., • Ensure responsible financial practices to maximise our impact and better serve our community., • Provide strategic financial modelling and analysis to support our growth goals, such as increasing our fee-for-service income and fundraising efforts. The Treasurer is appointed annually by the membership of the organisation (in this case, the Board of Trustees) at its Annual Business Meeting. The position is an honorary one and is vital to the proper financial management of the Association. YMCA North Tyneside has a Finance Sub Group of the Board. The Treasurer will usually act as Chairperson of that group. The Treasurer should be in regular contact with the Chief Executive and Director of Finance of the organisation with regard to the financial affairs and in the budgeting and reporting process. The role of a Trustee is to: • Set and maintain vision, mission and values;, • Develop strategy, set overall policy, define goals, set targets and evaluate performance;, • Ensure accountability;, • Support the operational management of the organisation;, • Safeguard the good name and values of YMCA;, • Maintain effective board performance and ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation;, • Promote YMCA;, • Act in the best interests of YMCA, never in the interests of yourself or another organisation The Treasurer is expected to: • Monitor and report regularly on the financial position of the organisation to the Board of Trustees; take a lead role in ensuring the Board understands and executes their responsibilities with regard to financial matters., • Be involved in the Board of Trustees, Finance Sub Group, Audit Sub Group., • Advise the Board of Management on the financial affairs of the organisation., • Take a lead role in the development of financial policies, e.g. reserves policy., • Make sure we comply with and have oversight of the annual audit of the accounts, the submission of returns to the Charity Commission, Housing Regulator, Companies House, and other regulatory bodies that are deemed necessary., • Present the annual audited accounts to the Annual Business Meeting of the organisation., • Ensure that the organisation maintains accounts and records during the year., • Ensure that the effective internal financial controls and procedures are in place in liaison with the Audit Sub Group., • Take the lead with the FD and CEO in maintaining any investment portfolio to ensure that investments are managed effectively. Person specification: • Committed to the Aims and Purposes of the YMCA, subject to the governing, • documents adopted by the organisation., • Recent practical experience of financial management including:, • A knowledge of accountancy procedures and charity internal financial controls;, • Preparation, and presentation of charity accounts and company/trading accounts, • Acting in a senior level within a multi disciplined organisation., • Have an understand and or experience of the charity sector, • An understanding of charity investment procedures.
