Senior Quantity Surveyor Permanent About the role Do you want to be at the forefront of one of the world’s most ambitious sustainability initiatives? An industry-leading delivery partner, working alongside a consortium of organisations, has been selected by bp to construct a first-of-a-kind, fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage. This flagship project is a key driver behind plans to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster. We are seeking a dynamic Senior Quantity Surveyor to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside project, based at site in Redcar and Cleveland. What you’ll be doing You will ensure effective commercial and contractual control and coordination of all parties involved in the delivery of a specified project or portfolio of projects. You will provide leadership and guidance to the commercial team and project leadership on all aspects of commercial management. Key accountabilities include: • Ensure all duties are carried out in accordance with company HSE procedures and work instructions, • Line management and mentoring of quantity surveying staff, providing advice and guidance to project teams as required, • In conjunction with the Project Management team, take accountability for project profitability and develop appropriate commercial strategies to deliver required margins, • Manage and maintain contract cost reporting systems, ensuring accurate tracking of budgets, commitments, variations and deviations, • Produce accurate cost forecasts to completion and final account values, • Monitor projected costs against approved budgets, • Ensure timely and accurate interface information between the client, subcontractors and internal departments, • Proactively manage cash flow and valuation plans, ensuring applications are submitted accurately and on time, • Identify, value and agree contract variations promptly, • Maintain effective records to support claims and ensure timely submission of variation and payment applications, • Manage the subcontract tender process, including selection, appointment and documentation, • Ensure subcontracts are placed appropriately to reflect main contract responsibilities, • Manage subcontractor accounts strictly in accordance with contractual terms, • Notify and manage insurance claims in line with company requirements, • Support project reviews and preparation of associated reports, • Provide accurate monthly cost and value reporting in line with company processes, • Prepare, negotiate and agree final accounts with subcontractors, • Ensure compliance with company commercial governance and minimum standards, • Where applicable, utilise BIM to support progress monitoring, commercial reporting and change management, • Maintain a relentless focus on Zero Harm, • Actively support sustainability objectives across the project Who we’re looking for You will have substantial experience in Quantity Surveying within a relevant construction or infrastructure environment and hold a valid CSCS card. Membership of, or working towards membership of, a relevant professional body is desirable (e.g. RICS, CIOB, ICE, CIBSE). Essential requirements: • Strong working knowledge of construction and contract law, • Detailed understanding of tendering and procurement processes, • Significant experience with construction techniques on complex projects, • Ability to apply commercial management principles effectively, • Working knowledge of plant, equipment and materials, • Strong understanding of subcontracting principles, including drafting and administration, • Ability to measure, quantify and cost construction works using standard methods, • Understanding of insurance, bonds and warranty requirements, • Proficiency in administration, numeracy, IT and MS Office, • Strong people management and relationship-building skills, • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, • Results-driven with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, • Strong negotiation skills with internal and external stakeholders, • Proactive, solutions-focused mindset with a passion for continuous improvement, • Customer-focused approach with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships, • Organised and efficient, with a strong focus on safe delivery, • Adaptable and energised by change Why work with us Our people are our greatest asset.
