We need to cover the following waking nights: Sunday and Monday or Thursday and Friday. We would expect the new support worker also to take on occasional extra shifts when colleagues are away. The night supports are strictly waking nights. This is quite an active position - you would need to be really fit and strong and ideally not be too petite either as you would be working with a still growing teenager with a movement disorder. We would prefer someone who can work with a UTR number on a self-employed basis. But if you needed a PAYE because of Visa requirements we can connect you to a care agency who will employ the correct candidate for us. This is not a second job possibility (we would like to find someone who takes on this position as their only job). Training is mostly 2 months of shadowing. Probation is a minimum of 6 months. After probation the rate increases to £17 with a UTR number (PAYE is £15 through the agency). Starting Date: for training Asap. Availability needed also for bank holidays (paid at double rate). His communication is mainly through pictures of reference and is taught with ABA principles. We will train you in behaviour therapy and would expect you to follow our training. There are regular team meetings and you would attend those meetings. He sometimes is also tired and unwell after a seizure or other illness and will then just need care and nurturing and patience. He also sometimes has hospital stays which requires a lot of patience. He needs a lot of physical support. He lives with his family and also a dog. About you You would need to be able to appreciate a person who has profound autism and treat him with dignity and kindness. You would be someone who has interest in special needs, psychology and perhaps nursing. You would perhaps have studied a related field or are planning to study a related field. This position is very different from working in a care home. You would be assisting him with everyday skills and activities as well as feeding, bathing and toileting.
