Job Title: Design Manager (Civil & Maritime) Location: HM Naval Base, Portsmouth (HMNBP) Service Area: Asset Management Hours of Work: 37 Per week Salary: £50,000 to £55,000 As part of the waterfront engineering team that reports to the Principal Maritime Civil Design Manager, you will be working collaboratively with multi-discipline engineering teams. You will be responsible for effectively delivering and managing design solutions for medium to large sized complex projects, from inception to in-service. Other duties will include: • Ensuring designs align to client’s strategic and environmental objectives, including Net Zero Carbon etc, and actively offer innovations to support these objectives., • Responsibility for checking that designs delivered by sub-contractors conform with the Statement of Requirement, standards/legislation, and the client’s strategic requirements., • Responsible for preparing Safe to Operate statements for endorsement by the Chief Engineer, the client and the Principal Engineer. You’ll Have: • Degree / HND or equivalent of BEng/BSc in Civil Engineering or sub-disciplines, • Familiarity with infrastructures such as Waterfronts, foundations and/or peripheral engineering systems, • Professional experience of the full engineering life-cycle, including procurement and construction, • Knowledge of building regulations and British standards for civil works, and relevant regulations including PUWER, LOLER, CDM Regulations, Temporary Works etc., • Ability to work directly with the client without direct management supervision and instruction. Chief Systems Engineer An aerospace engineering organisation is seeking an experienced Chief Systems Engineer to join its Engineering Leadership Team. This is a senior technical leadership role with airworthiness signatory responsibility, reporting directly to the Site Engineering Manager. The successful candidate will act as a Company Design Signatory and Certification Authority point of contact, ensuring the safety, compliance and technical excellence of aerospace systems across the full product lifecycle. The Chief Systems Engineer will: • Provide technical oversight across Integrated Project Teams, • Chair Technical Design Reviews, Change Control Boards and Problem Review Boards, • Serve on the Site Airworthiness Board, • Act as the primary interface with regulators including UK CAA, EASA and FAA, • Review and approve certification artefacts and product documentation, • Ensure compliance with AS9100 and civil certification regulations, • Drive robust engineering risk management and continuous improvement This role carries independent airworthiness signatory responsibility and requires a high degree of professional maturity, autonomy and commercial awareness. Key Experience Required • 15+ years’ experience in aerospace systems engineering, • Extensive experience in avionics systems certification, • Strong knowledge of ED-79B, ED-12C, ED-80 and ED-135, • Experience working with UK CAA, EASA or FAA certification authorities, • Knowledge of CS-ETSO, CS-23/25/27/29, GM and AMC, • Experience chairing design and certification boards, • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status Candidates must be from a Commonwealth country due to the nature of the work.
