We are currently looking for a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer for our client, a multi-disciplinary engineering practice with a passion for excellence, innovation, and environmental sustainability. The successful candidate will be responsible, under the leadership of the MEP Director, for the technical project management of medium to large scale projects and individual engineering task(s) for numerous schemes for clients cross sector. The Principal Mechanical Design Engineer will: • Lead the design and delivery of mechanical building services, including HVAC (inc. clean & dry rooms), hot and cold water, steam, foul drainage, compressed air, and BMS systems., • Carry out site surveys and inspections, ensuring accurate assessment of existing conditions and project requirements., • Produce design calculations, technical specifications, reports, and drawings using both manual and software-based methods., • Manage and coordinate project teams, allocating workloads across engineers, graduates, and support staff., • Oversee project commercial aspects including budgeting, income tracking, and cost management., • Represent the company in client meetings, maintain strong relationships, and identify opportunities for future work. The Principal Mechanical Design Engineer will have: • Engineering Degree - Mechanical / Building Services. Chartered or on way to Charter-ship., • Minimum 10 years in Mechanical Building Services Engineering (Must be UK-Based design experience), • Demonstrable experience in running customer projects through to completion either at a consultancy or contractor., • Experience managing technical team., • Strong communication and client-facing skills, with the ability to operate independently and within multidisciplinary teams across various office locations., • High attention to detail, self-motivated, and eager to contribute to innovative projects across a broad range of industry sectors. Objective: MSP Limited are seeking a skilled and motivated Head of Field Service – BESS Systems. The Head of Field Service for BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) Systems is a senior position responsible for overseeing all pre and post-installation activities from installation through to operational and maintenance (O&M) activities across a portfolio of energy storage assets. You will be responsible for recruiting, training, mentoring, and managing a national / regional team of Field Service Engineers, and Technicians delivering a portfolio of service and maintenance contracts from installation, maintenance, through to reactive breakdowns troubleshooting advanced Battery Energy Storage Systems across client sites in the UK. This role involves hands-on work with electrical components, control systems, and hybrid energy solutions, ensuring optimal performance and customer satisfaction. Key Responsibilities: • Develop and implement the overall Field Service strategy, including standards for preventative maintenance (PM), corrective maintenance (CM), troubleshooting, and commissioning support., • Establish and continuously improve all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), maintenance procedures, and workflow processes for field service activities., • Take ultimate responsibility for the long-term operational performance, reliability, and maximum energy output/availability of all BESS assets under service contracts., • Oversee the management of spare parts and logistics across all service locations to ensure rapid response to outages., • Act as the primary technical interface and escalation point for key customers regarding service delivery, operational performance, and contract fulfilment(especially LTSAs)., • Ensure all contractual obligations under LTSAs are met, including performance guarantees (availability, capacity), reporting requirements, and outage scheduling., • Manage and oversee third-party contractors and Original Equipment, • Manufacturers (OEMs) providing specialized maintenance or repair services, ensuring their work meets company standards., • Prepare and present regular, comprehensive service and performance reports for internal executive management and external clients. In summary, the Head of Field Service for BESS transforms engineering design into reliable, profitable, and safe long-term operations Relationships: The Head of Field Service will report to the Operations Director. To be effective in this role the Head of Field Service will need to work alongside the Head of Engineering, Head of Software, Procurement and Programme Management: Internal Stakeholders • Senior Field Service Engineer – For alignment on process, • Software Engineers – Facilitate software integration and development., • Control Systems Engineers – Coordinate on implementing control algorithms (e.g., PID) and integrating them into embedded systems., • Test Engineers – Partner to develop and execute test plans, especially for high-power systems and HIL simulations. External Stakeholders • Clients, • Supply chain, • Technical Support Person Specification: • To be successful in this role the Head of Field Service, • Confident in building a team while satisfying existing commitments., • Comfortable working onsite and away from home., • Expected to be on client sites for 150 days per year., • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities., • Self-motivated and capable of working independently., • Safety-conscious with high attention to detail., • Flexible and adaptable to changing environments and schedules, • Be adaptable and flexible in your approach to work., • DBS check to be completed prior to start date., • A legal right to work in the UK. Qualifications & Experience: • Degree or HND in Electrical Engineering or related field., • One or more of the following:, • Electrical inspection and testing certification (e.g., 18th Edition, C&G 2391), • Degree or HND in Electrical Engineering or related field., • Formal training and qualification as an electrician, • Minimum 3 years of experience in field service or electrical systems maintenance., • Strong understanding of hybrid power systems, inverters, and energy storage technologies. Competent with knowledge on electrical characteristics: • AC / DC Networks, • Power Factor, • kVA / kW, • Harmonics, • Proficient in reading electrical schematics and using diagnostic tools., • Familiarity with PLCs, SCADA systems, and remote monitoring platforms is a plus., • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively.
