Mechanical Design Engineer – Hybrid Remote\nSalary: Negotiable (£30,000 to £50,000 dependant on experience) + Bonus + Benefits\nLocation: Derby Area (Hybrid / Remote Working Available)\nAn experienced Mechanical Design Engineer role in a specialist design consultancy delivering engineering solutions within the materials handling and process industries.\nEstablished in 2012, the company supports a range clients of major blue-chip clients including Holcim, Tarmac, British Sugar, Unilever, to general fabricators. We specialise in providing design services for bulk materials handling systems and associated plant infrastructure and steelwork.\nThis role will involve the delivery of technically robust, compliant design solutions across a range of bespoke projects. You will contribute across the full project lifecycle, from concept development through to detailed design for manufacture, installation, to the design by our clients.\nWhere appropriate, a hybrid working model will be in place, with primarily remote working and periodic attendance at the office and client sites as required (subject to suitable home work station and environment).\nThe Role\nYou will be responsible for the mechanical design and detailing of plant layouts, bulk materials handling systems, and associated equipment. The role requires a strong understanding of fabrication design, plant layout and detailing, structural steelwork, plant integration, and design for manufacture.\nYou will also provide technical input to projects, ensuring designs meet applicable standards, specifications, and operational requirements.\nKey Responsibilities\nDevelop mechanical designs from concept through to detailed engineering definition\nProduce and manage design deliverables, including:\n * 2D CAD layouts\n * 3D CAD models and assemblies\n * General arrangement and layout drawings\n * Detailed fabrication and manufacturing drawings\n * P&IDs, mechanical schematics and flow diagrams\n * Bills of materials and other technical lists\n * Manufacturing aids (CNC laser profiles etc)\n * Mechanical and process calculations\n * Integration of point cloud and 3D scan data into design models\n * Ensure designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and client specifications\nGenerate project documentation, including user manuals, mechanical certification dossiers, quality plans, production programmes and manufacturing procedures\nApply design for manufacture, assembly, operation and maintainability principles to all work\nCollaborate with multi-disciplinary in-house and external teams, including electrical, civil, and process control engineers\nLiaise with suppliers and fabricators to ensure accurate interpretation and implementation of design intent\nSupport project delivery in line with programme, budget, and technical requirements\nRequirements\nDemonstrable experience in engineering design within process plant or materials handling environments\nExperience in the design and layout of equipment such as:\n * Hoppers, chutes, and silos\n * Belt conveyors and bucket elevators\n * Rotary plant (mills, dryers, coolers, kilns or similar)\nStrong capability in structural steelwork layout and detailing, calculations by Structural Engineer, including:\n * Equipment support structures and skid assemblies\n * Access systems (platforms, staircases, ladders, handrails)\n * Portal frame structures / buildings\n * Experience in pipework design and routing within industrial plant layouts\nProficient in 3D CAD systems:\n * SolidWorks (3 years recent experience)\n * Tekla (desirable)\n * AutoCAD\nCompetent in the production of engineering documentation and use of standard office software: Adobe, MS Office, Outlook\nHigh attention to detail with a methodical approach and responsibility for technical accuracy and compliance with zero errors approach\nUnderstanding of plant layout constraints within industries such as quarrying, cement, bulk materials handling, foodstuffs handling (advantageous)\nCommercial awareness and balancing engineering design with cost and manufacturability\nStrong technical communication and problem-solving capability\nAbility to work in fast paced design environments\nSalary & Benefits\nSalary Negotiable (£30,000 to £50,000 dependant on experience)\nHybrid / remote working\nAnnual performance bonus\nOptional private healthcare with discounted gym membership\nPension scheme\n30 days holiday (including statutory holidays)\nApply\nThis role would suit a Mechanical Design Engineer seeking to work on technically varied projects within a consultancy environment, with involvement across the full engineering lifecycle
