Pastoral Officer – Taunton Teaching Personnel Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a secondary school in the Taunton area to recruit a dedicated and compassionate Pastoral Officer. This is a key role focused on safeguarding, student wellbeing, and supporting young people to both enjoy and achieve during their school life. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Year and wider pastoral team to promote a positive school culture built on high expectations, inclusion, and strong relationships. You will play an important role in ensuring students feel safe, supported, and able to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The Role: Providing high-quality pastoral care to support students’ wellbeing, behaviour, and personal development Identifying and supporting students at risk, working closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead and external agencies Promoting a strong safeguarding culture where students feel confident to raise concerns Supporting behaviour management through de-escalation, restorative conversations, and reintegration meetings Working with parents and carers regarding behaviour, attendance, and welfare concerns Supporting attendance and punctuality alongside the Attendance Officer, including first-day absence calls and targeted interventions Providing individual and group pastoral support to address social, emotional, and behavioural needs Promoting inclusion, resilience, and positive attitudes towards school life Maintaining accurate pastoral records and contributing to whole-school wellbeing strategies We are looking for someone who: Has experience working with children or young people in a pastoral, safeguarding, or support role Has a strong understanding of safeguarding and student welfare Can build positive, trusting relationships with students, families, and staff Is calm, resilient, and confident managing challenging situations Shares a commitment to high standards, inclusion, and student wellbeing Holds, or is willing to obtain, an Enhanced Child DBS What Teaching Personnel offers: Competitive weekly pay through PAYE Ongoing training and CPD opportunities Dedicated consultant support throughout your placement A supportive onboarding process Opportunities for long-term and permanent roles All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role.
