About the Role: An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for a proactive and experienced professional to join a busy Import Department handling over 16,000 shipments per year. We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with extensive customs knowledge to enhance the team and contribute to the development of best practices for the future. The ideal candidate will have excellent attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and outstanding communication abilities. Advanced IT skills, particularly in Excel, are essential. As a Customs Manager, you will oversee product classification, customs clearance, compliance, and regulatory checks to ensure smooth operations and future-proof the business. You will work closely with other departments to support operational requirements, including ROI and EU shipments. Requirements: • Minimum of 3 years’ proven customs management experience. In-depth knowledge of customs procedures for the UK, Northern Ireland, and Republic of Ireland, including importing rules, valuation, tariff classification, and origin preferences., • Experience with UK Customs Warehouse procedures, Northern Ireland goods movements (TSS), and ROI importing., • Direct import sector experience in areas including:, • Tariff classifications (UK & EU online tariff), • Customs clearance procedures and entry instructions, • C88 & E2 documentation, • Deferment & MSS customs reports, • Customs warehousing procedures (including CFSP), • Import/export documentation (Rules of Origin, Tariff Preferences, Anti-Dumping declarations), • Customs compliance & certification (NIRMS / APHA), • EU & UK government regulations (EU/UK CBAM, EUDR), • Northern Ireland TSS, • ROI EU import entries The role is fast-paced, requiring the ability to multitask while maintaining accuracy and productivity. Key Responsibilities: • Lead, manage, and develop the import customs team., • Maintain SOPs and best practices for the department. Review tariff classifications and compliance with regulations., • Conduct ROI / EU documentation checks (Northern Ireland TSS / Republic of Ireland TAN). Monitor clearance compliance and performance per CFSP / customs warehouse requirements., • Liaise with Port Health services for import certificates., • Support customs bureau services, entry preparation, and audits., • Check and monitor customs entries using software reporting (C88/E2, Deferment & MSS)., • Develop own customs expertise and share knowledge with the wider team. Deliver training sessions on import/export requirements across the business., • Lead projects to implement regulations including EU/UK CBAM, EUDR., • Monitor import costs and identify opportunities for efficiency and cost savings. Person Specification: • Minimum 3 years’ customs management experience., • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and consistency. Comfortable using multiple data systems and analysing data sets., • Excellent communication with stakeholders at all levels., • Calm under pressure with strong organisational and prioritisation skills. Leadership and team development capabilities., • Strong administrative, written, numerical, analytical, and IT skills (especially Excel).
