Senior BMS Consultant (Digital Buildings) Help shape the cities and places of tomorrow. We are seeking a Senior Consultant specialising in Building Management Systems (BMS) to strengthen our growing Digital Advisory team and contribute to the technological transformation of the built environment. Your Next Role Our Digital Advisory team delivers technology and information-led solutions that enhance financial, environmental, and social performance across the built environment. Project work is varied and impactful, from defining smart city technologies aimed at improving resident and visitor experiences, to developing sophisticated digital twins for large estates to support decarbonisation, to identifying technology-enabled revenue opportunities in major UK venues, and designing the processes required for secure and effective data management. Across all engagements, our work is grounded in engineering expertise and a commitment to delivering positive outcomes for people, planet, and place. You’ll work across digital strategy, digital systems, and data & analytics, collaborating with multidisciplinary specialists to deliver meaningful, real‑world change. Key Responsibilities • Lead workstreams and engagements, from outcome definition and planning through to successful delivery and knowledge capture., • Conduct detailed technical assessments of existing BMS and provide recommendations to improve building performance and reduce energy consumption., • Develop and review control philosophies, sequences of operation, and integration strategies for HVAC, lighting, and other building systems., • Provide expert BMS input into wider Smart Building and digital transformation projects across both new build and retrofit environments., • Prepare and review specifications, schedules, drawings, commissioning plans, and other technical documentation., • Analyse historical BMS trend data and wider building performance data to identify inefficiencies, faults, and energy optimisation opportunities., • Coordinate effectively with clients, vendors, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams., • Support business development through sector insights and subject‑matter expertise., • Contribute to the growth of the Smart Buildings and Building Intelligence offerings. Your Skills & Experience Essential • Strong background in designing, specifying, and configuring BMS covering HVAC, metering, lighting, and wider building systems., • Deep understanding of control philosophies, sequences of operation, system architecture, and integration strategies., • Knowledge of common communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, KNX, M‑Bus, OPC, MQTT, APIs., • Understanding of smart building data ontologies, tagging structures, and relational data modelling., • Ability to develop building optimisation strategies using engineering principles and performance data analysis., • Familiarity with BMS data access and analytics tools (e.g., Tridium Niagara, Trend IQVision, Schneider EcoStruxure)., • Awareness of cybersecurity principles within operational technology environments., • Experience leading procurement, technical inspections, commissioning, and vendor/contractor management., • Keen interest in technology within the built environment and awareness of market trends., • Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline. Desirable • Experience delivering Smart Building projects, ideally within the UK., • Background in Energy Services within the built environment., • Understanding of measurement & verification methodologies (e.g., IPMVP)., • Familiarity with FM contracts and performance‑improvement opportunities., • Knowledge of FDD (Fault Detection & Diagnostics) and CAFM platforms.
