Company Description Beyond Carbon Associates is a design and engineering consultancy established in 2022 with a mission to make low-energy, healthy buildings the norm in the UK. We are Passivhaus designers, architectural physicists, engineers, creators and innovators, using our technical wisdom to engineer excellent, beyond zero-carbon buildings. We are now looking for an experienced energy and building performance consultant to join our growing building physics team. Role Description The Senior Building Physics Consultant will work on a variety of projects, applying expertise in sustainable building design and energy performance optimisation. Main responsibilities include: • Undertaking advanced building performance modelling using IESVE and related tools, • Carrying out compliance work including overheating, energy and daylighting analysis (TM52, TM59, Part O, Part L, EPCs etc.), • Supporting the development and application of computational design tools (Rhino/Grasshopper), • Translating complex simulation outputs into actionable design recommendations and communicating these outputs effectively with design teams and other stakeholders, • Using Passivhaus strategies in design, modelling and construction, and supporting certification and on-site quality assurance Key Requirements Essential for the role: • Experience of designing low-energy buildings to exceed the requirements of UK Building Regulations Part O, Part L and Part F, • Prior experience of dynamic thermal simulation using IESVE, • Experience of Rhino 3D and Grasshopper, including writing scripts, • Working knowledge of Passivhaus design and specification, particularly large and complex projects, • Experience of London plan energy and sustainability policies Preferred • SketchUp knowledge and/or ability to learn, • Coding knowledge, e.g. Python, • Thermal bridge modelling experience (2D and 3D), • Knowledge of net zero carbon strategies / policies*, • Understanding of HEM / Future Homes Standard, • Use of AI to code and develop workarounds in emerging software, • Energy assessor certification: On Construction Domestic Energy Assessor (OCDEA) and / or Level 5 Non-Domestic Energy Assessor (NDEA) General experience: • Ability to support construction teams as they deliver low energy buildings, • Proficient in all things Excel, with a good knowledge of Teams and SharePoint, • The ability to work independently and remotely – working from home requires a self-starter, • Excellent time management skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritise your own workload, • Excellent communication skills, • A real team player and collaborator who enjoys working closely with the management team and wider colleagues, • Values-led in your decision making, with alignment to our mission and values, • A real ‘can-do’ approach – we are all about solutions and we encourage an open environment where people can speak freely to add value to our working community, • The willingness and ability to travel Qualifications / Experience • Degree qualified in relevant subject – engineering or physics preferred, • Certified Passivhaus Designer / Consultant preferred, • Qualified OCDEA / NDEA preferred, • At least 5 years' experience in a similar role is preferrable, although we are open to all applicants who believe they can demonstrate the necessary skills and experience for the role The role is dependent on being able to evidence your right to work in the UK.
