Senior Support Worker Children’s Residential Home | Full-Time | West Midlands What happens to the young people who no longer “fit” foster placements? That was the question behind this home. Built by an organisation with an established and respected fostering network, this children’s home was created for one reason above all else — to stop young people falling through the gaps when foster placements break down or can no longer meet increasingly complex needs. Instead of walking away from those young people, they built something new. This is not a large corporate provider opening homes for numbers. This is a service built from genuine care, relationships, and a desire to create continuity for children who have often experienced too much instability already. We’re now recruiting for a Senior Support Worker to join the team. The Role This is a hands-on leadership role within a therapeutic children’s residential environment supporting young people with emotional and behavioural needs. You’ll be expected to lead by example on shift, helping create a safe, structured, and nurturing home where young people can begin to rebuild trust, routines, and emotional stability. Responsibilities include: • Supporting young people through day-to-day care, routines, education, and activities, • Acting as a positive role model and consistent adult presence, • Leading shifts and supporting junior staff members, • Supporting with safeguarding, risk management, and behavioural support, • Building therapeutic relationships with young people, • Contributing to care planning, key work sessions, and placement stability, • Ensuring accurate records and reports are completed to a high standard, • Supporting the management team with the overall running of the home, • Helping create a warm, family-style environment where young people feel safe and valued What Makes This Home Different? The story behind this service genuinely matters. This provider already had extensive experience supporting foster carers and children through fostering services. Over time, they recognised a growing problem — some young people were becoming increasingly difficult to place, and too often those children were being moved from service to service without stability. Rather than allowing those young people to become “unplaceable,” they created a residential environment designed to continue that support journey. The ethos here is about: • Relationships before behaviour, • Stability before judgement, • Therapeutic support instead of punishment, • Keeping young people connected instead of starting over repeatedly About You We’re looking for someone who: • Has experience within children’s residential care, • Can confidently lead shifts and support colleagues, • Understands trauma-informed practice and relationship-based care, • Is calm, resilient, and emotionally intelligent, • Wants to be part of something meaningful and progressive, • Genuinely cares about outcomes for young people Desirable Qualifications • NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Children & Young People, • Experience supporting young people with EBD/trauma backgrounds, • Knowledge of safeguarding and Ofsted standards, • Experience as a Senior or experienced Residential Support Worker What’s On Offer • The opportunity to join a genuinely values-led organisation, • Supportive leadership and therapeutic culture, • Career progression opportunities as the service grows, • A home with a real purpose and story behind it, • The chance to make a lasting impact on young people who need stability most If you’re the type of person who believes challenging young people deserve more support — not less — this could be an incredibly rewarding opportunity
