Job Description POSITION SUMMARY The Interim Camp Manager is responsible for overseeing the Bay Area Discovery Museum’s onsite Summer Camps, School Break Camps, and Build a Camp (Private Camp) Programs. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, inclusive learning experiences for children (ages 3-8) in an engaging and developmentally appropriate environment. The Interim Camp Manager leads program strategy, seasonal staff recruitment and development, curriculum planning, and operational management to support the museum’s educational goals and financial objectives. This role reports directly to the Head of Museum Experience. Additionally, this role collaborates across departments to enhance program effectiveness, ensure excellent customer service, and maintain safe, well-equipped learning spaces. The working hours for this position will be 5 onsite days a week, roughly 40 hours a week, 8:00am-5:00pm. Your employment period will be from 3/16/2026-8/31/2026. This is a Temporary onsite position classified as non-exempt and must be available for the entire period listed above. This position will cover a scheduled leave period and will not be eligible for permanent employment with the Museum. The pay for the position is $34-$36/hr. Employment Period at a Glance: Interim Manager Training Period: March 16-March 27, 2026 Spring Break Camps Dates: March 30 – April 3, 2026 April 6 – 10, 2026 Pre-Season Prep and Training Dates*: (Possible Build-a-Camps Programs*) April 13-June 5, 2026 Summer Break Camps Dates: June 8– August 21, 2026 Offboarding Period*: (Possible Build-a-Camps Programs*) August 24-September 4, 2026 KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Participates in program strategy development for in-person Discovery Camp programs, with a focus on maintaining and expanding high quality early childhood educational experiences that generate net revenue for the Museum., • Manages the implementation of camp programs that meet the Museum’s strategic outcomes and financial goals., • Manages the team responsible for teaching camps, including recruitment, training and coaching, scheduling, team building, and performance management., • Oversee Spring Break Camps, Summer Camps, and Build-a-Camps (Private Camps)including curriculum management, registration process, scholarship program, parent communications, staffing, program supplies inventory and management, and program evaluation., • Works with Administrator and Registrar on building and monitoring camp registration, setting and monitoring registration and revenue targets, and generating management reports., • Supervises designated staff, including interviewing, onboarding, scheduling and time management, coaching, and performance assessment. Sets direct reports up for success through clear setting of expectations, developmental and growth opportunities, and clear, consistent, and timely performance management. Occasionally supports as Senior Camp Facilitator if callouts occur., • Responsible budget monitoring and management for (a)designated program(s)/team(s), aligns to institutional goals and strategic planning. Manages expenses and revenues to ensure fiscal health., • Researches and procures program materials and supplies and maintains existing systems for camp inventory management., • Leads and participates in cross-functional working groups and teams; works collaboratively with colleagues across the institution to ensure programs meet institutional and audience outcomes and needs., • Collaborates with Facilities and Exhibits Teams to execute priorities and plans for the safety and upkeep of camp and classroom spaces, and protocols for keeping spaces, equipment and materials safe, clean and in good repair., • Collaborates with the Visitor Services team leadership to implement customer service standards and delivers customer service training for camps staff. SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS • College degree in early childhood education, museum studies, science, art, or relevant field or equivalent professional experience., • At least two years of experience developing and facilitating revenue generating programs for children and families required, informal settings preferred., • Proven track record of successful project and staff management including training and team professional development., • Understanding of early childhood development, pedagogy, and developmentally appropriate practice., • Bilingual in Spanish or Cantonese a plus., • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills., • Proactive, self-starter, with a can-do attitude., • Professional commitment to diversity, equity, access, and inclusion; thoughtful and open about the role of a workplace and a cultural institution in creating a sense of welcome and belonging for staff and visitors., • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment that requires creative problem-solving skills, flexibility, and internal and external collaboration., • General comfort with technology; high proficiency with full Microsoft Suite; ability to learn new platforms quickly., • If not already certified, Bay Area Discovery Museum will provide training in First Aid, CPR and AED for adult, infant and child., • Abides by and enforces Bay Area Discovery Museum’s health and safety protocols. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The employee is required to come and go from the work area; to frequently use a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and telephone utilizing safe ergonomic practices; to speak and listen; and to read and understand documents containing text, numbers, and images. The employee is frequently required to move from one location to another and sit, as well as to lift and carry objects such as laptops, books, files, and meeting setup materials weighing up to 15 pounds. The employee may frequently be required to reach and stoop, kneel, or crouch. WORK ENVIRONMENT Works in a combination of indoor and outdoor environments, including occasional high noise levels, widely varying temperatures, varying levels of light, and inclement weather. Will be required to perform work duties in full view of the public, while adhering to the Bay Area Discovery Museum’s customer service standards.
