Job DescriptionJob Title: Microbiology Laboratory Technician Job Description This role focuses on preparing and testing samples for analytical and microbiological evaluation of food products, ingredients, and environmental materials. The technician applies approved microbiological techniques and methodologies to support accurate, reliable results while maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient laboratory environment. Responsibilities • Prepare samples for analysis of indicator organisms, pathogens, and chemistry-related parameters in food products, ingredients, and environmental samples., • Apply aseptic techniques consistently in all daily laboratory activities to prevent contamination and ensure reliable test results., • Maintain microbiological media and reagents as needed to support daily testing requirements., • Monitor inventory levels and report expendable supplies and materials needed to meet testing demands., • Provide routine preventive maintenance through daily cleaning, sanitizing, and trash disposal to keep the laboratory in proper working order., • Perform quality control monitoring by recording incubator temperatures, inoculating control organisms, and running media controls in accordance with established procedures., • Independently carry out assigned processes and procedures in strict accordance with laboratory policies, standard operating procedures, and customer requirements., • Maintain overall laboratory conditions, including equipment readiness, supply levels, quality assurance programs, and accurate records throughout all procedures., • Perform all activities in a neat, safe, hygienic, and efficient manner to support a high standard of laboratory operations., • Share information openly and in a timely manner with colleagues to support effective communication and collaboration within the laboratory.Essential Skills, • Experience preparing and handling samples for microbiological and analytical testing, including food, ingredient, and environmental samples., • Proficiency in applying aseptic techniques in a laboratory setting., • Ability to perform routine quality control procedures, such as monitoring incubator temperatures, inoculating control organisms, and running media controls., • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate sample preparation, testing, documentation, and adherence to procedures., • Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) consistently and precisely., • Capability to work effectively in a fast-paced laboratory environment while managing multiple tasks., • Experience maintaining laboratory equipment, media, reagents, and supplies in support of daily testing., • Strong commitment to safety, hygiene, and efficient laboratory practices.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Degree in a scientific discipline such as Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field is preferred., • Candidates without a degree may be considered if they have relevant laboratory or quality control experience., • Background or coursework in microbiology, biology, chemistry, and quality control is beneficial., • Familiarity with laboratory quality assurance programs and documentation practices., • Ability to communicate clearly and share information in an open and timely manner with team members.Work Environment This position is based in a fast-paced microbiology laboratory focused on food safety and quality testing. The regular schedule runs Tuesday through Saturday, with shift start times typically between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., and a specific schedule will be confirmed upon assignment. The environment involves routine use of microbiological media, reagents, incubators, and standard laboratory equipment, with an emphasis on aseptic technique, cleanliness, and safety. Team members work in a collaborative setting that values learning and advancement, with structured training and performance reviews. The organization offers opportunities for internal promotion at both local and national levels, and provides a review at 90 days where strong attendance, completion of training, and quality performance are recognized with potential pay increases. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of De Pere, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.50 - $19.50/hr.
