Job Opportunity: BHSI is seeking a visionary leader to join their Boston based Technology team in the role of SVP, Data & Analytics Engineering. This executive leadership role is at the heart of our digital and data-driven evolution, and as a member of the senior technology leadership team, you will be entrusted with creating the strategy and delivering our next generation data platforms and business intelligence capabilities that will power BHSI’s growth, innovation, and competitive advantage. You will report directly to the Chief Information Officer and work in close partnership with Enterprise Architecture, Infrastructure & Digital Services, Cybersecurity, Technology portfolios, and business leaders across the globe. You will be accountable for reimagining our data ecosystem, modernizing platforms, and building a unified, scalable, and secure data foundation that enables advanced analytics, artificial intelligence, and actionable business intelligence. Data is at the heart of our industry, and you will have a tremendous impact on every facet of our company - Underwriting, Claims, Finance, Operations, Client & Broker Engagement, etc. You will lead the evolution of our data engineering practices, champion a data-first culture, and empower teams to harness the full potential of data for improved decision-making, operational efficiency, and market differentiation. Through collaboration with executive leadership, you will be at the center of aligning data and business intelligence technology investments with strategic business goals and influence the future of BHSI by leveraging data as a strategic asset to unlock new opportunities, mitigate risks, and deliver superior value to our customers. Duties & Responsibilities: • Define and execute our data platform strategy, vision, and roadmap, aligning business and technology goals to support BHSI’s growth and operational excellence., • Partner with technology and business functions to modernize our data ecosystem, influence data quality, and enable advanced analytics and Artificial Intelligence capabilities., • Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture, Cybersecurity, and Infrastructure teams to ensure data platforms are secure, efficient, and compliant., • Ensure our solutions are well-architected and engineered and deliver unified, scalable data platforms supporting structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data., • Lead the evolution and modernization of aging data platforms, streamline data ingestion and transformation, and enable self-service business intelligence and analytics for business users., • Drive adoption of cloud-native architectures, DevSecOps, and modern engineering practices in all data platforms and data solutions., • Establish and enforce data engineering standards, governance, and best practices to ensure data integrity, security, and compliance., • In partnership with key business stakeholders (e.g., Chief Data Officer, Data Stewards), champion data quality management, metadata, lineage, and master data management capabilities., • Enable advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI capabilities through robust data engineering solutions and modern data platforms., • Partner with business stakeholders to deliver actionable insights, dashboards, and visualizations that drive exceptional business outcomes., • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of data engineers and modelers to ensure solutions meet the needs of our complex global business., • Foster a culture of experimentation, continuous learning, and innovation to build and scale sophisticated data capabilities, including platforms, tools, and talent development, • At least 15 years of experience managing technology teams, including a minimum of 5 years in data engineering leadership roles., • Proven experience leading data engineering functions in complex, fast-paced environments, ideally within regulated industries such as insurance or financial services., • Deep technical expertise in data architecture, data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, Fabric), and cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), and data engineering best practices., • Extensive knowledge of modern data frameworks, ETL/ELT, data modeling, and analytics enablement., • Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills across engineering teams and business stakeholders., • A passion for mentoring technical talent and fostering a high-performance culture., • Ability to see the big picture and align data engineering with long-term business strategies and provide guidance and education on data capabilities., • Expertise in systems thinking to optimize interdependencies across business units, platforms, and technologies to ensure we drive a data-first mindset throughout the company., • Experience implementing data governance, data quality, and master data management programs to leverage data as a critical asset that can differentiate BHSI., • Passion for staying current with emerging data technologies that can enable Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Generative AI capabilities., • Comfortable working in agile environments, with a focus on continuous improvement and delivery., • Ability to influence senior business leaders, including executives, through clear communication and strategic insight to ensure we leverage data as a strategic asset., • Skilled in cross-functional collaboration, especially with business functions, engineering, security, infrastructure, and operations teams., • Strong foundation in software engineering, application and data architecture, integration patterns, and infrastructure design to ensure our data platforms and solutions are secure, reliable, and stable. Total compensation for a candidate is determined by their relevant skills, location, and experience.
