Job DescriptionJob Title: Civil Engineer – Water Resources Job Description This Civil Engineer role offers the opportunity to work on impactful water resource projects that support potable water, wastewater, stormwater, and transportation infrastructure for communities across Indiana. You will contribute to the planning, design, and implementation of water distribution and wastewater collection systems, treatment facilities, and related civil works, while receiving mentoring from experienced engineers and progressing toward professional licensure. This position is ideal for an early-career engineer who wants to apply their education, develop strong technical and client-facing skills, and grow within a supportive, team-oriented environment. Responsibilities • Collaborate closely with project managers, project engineers, CAD designers, and environmental scientists on water, wastewater, stormwater, and transportation projects., • Assist in the planning and design of pump stations, collection systems, distribution systems, and water and wastewater treatment plant projects., • Prepare engineering reports, construction documents, cost estimates, and technical memoranda to support project development and delivery., • Perform design calculations under the supervision of a project engineer or project manager, applying principles of hydraulics and water resources engineering., • Interpret and apply federal, state, and local regulations related to water resources, wastewater, and stormwater management., • Contact government agencies and officials to obtain permits and prepare complete, accurate permit applications., • Conduct site visits, field investigations, and inspections as needed to support design, construction, and compliance activities., • Coordinate with contractors during design and construction phases to address technical questions and support successful project execution., • Communicate technical findings and project information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including internal teams and municipal clients., • Contribute to the design of water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, and transportation projects such as roads, streets, sidewalks, and trails for municipal clients., • Support both rehabilitation and new construction projects for water, wastewater, stormwater, and transportation infrastructure., • Participate in mentoring relationships, learning from senior engineers and, as you gain experience, providing guidance to engineering interns.Essential Skills, • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in water resources engineering., • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering., • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam certification, with clear progress toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure., • Experience with water and wastewater projects, including pump stations, collection systems, distribution systems, and treatment plants., • Knowledge of water resources, water and wastewater engineering, and stormwater concepts., • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D for civil and water resources design., • Understanding of hydraulics and experience using hydraulic modeling software., • Ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and local regulations related to water resources and stormwater., • Strong ability to prepare engineering reports, construction documents, cost estimates, and technical memoranda., • Effective verbal and written communication skills for interacting with clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders., • Valid driver’s license to support travel to project sites and client locations.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Graduate degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering is a plus., • Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling tools is a bonus., • Ability to apply technical skills to meet project demands and solve complex problems for clients., • Demonstrated positive attitude and strong work ethic., • Clear sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet deadlines and manage workload effectively., • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work., • Ability to contribute to and thrive in a positive, team-oriented work environment., • Interest in pursuing long-term growth in water, wastewater, stormwater, and transportation engineering., • Comfort interacting with clients and participating in meetings and presentations as needed.Work Environment The work environment combines office-based design and analysis with fieldwork, providing a balanced mix of in-office and out-of-office responsibilities. The office culture is laid back yet professional, with a strong emphasis on teamwork, a family-like atmosphere, and a supportive, mentoring-driven approach to professional development. Standard hours are typically 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with flexibility to start as early as 7:00 a.m. or as late as 9:00 a.m., and options at times to work a schedule such as Monday through Thursday at 9 hours per day and Friday at 4 hours. Work can be deadline intensive at times, reflecting the demands of municipal infrastructure projects. Engineers use tools such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and hydraulic modeling software in their daily work. The role includes site visits, field investigations, and coordination with contractors and municipal clients. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Wayne, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $38.46 - $42.97/hr.
