Young Scholars Charter School (YSCS) is a free, lottery-based, open-enrollment charter school serving students from across Philadelphia in grades 5-8. The mission of Young Scholars is to provide a personalized middle school education that challenges, engages and prepares all students to passionately pursue their dreams and lead a life of active citizenship. We aim to inspire and equip every student to lead a life of achievement, service and success. Our structured and nurturing community, comprehensive programming and rigorous academic curriculum are designed to build self-motivated citizens, eager learners and strong leaders regardless of circumstance. Our graduates are driven young people who are prepared for the future demands of high school, college, career and, eventually, the world. Our teachers engage in extensive planning, strong instructional execution, and common skill-based assessments. Our curriculum engages students in building their academic proficiency and social-emotional skills to be successful. Who are we looking for? We are currently looking for a passionate Athletics Director to join the YSCS team in SY 2025-26 and work with us to Imagine New Possibilities in Education. This role is contracted and the person in this role will receive a stipend of $6,000 (paid out in 4 payments). The hours for this role will be 2:30pm 5:30pm Monday through Friday. The Athletics Coordinator will report directly to the Director of Student Life & High School Placement. The Athletics Coordinator will work with several different stakeholder groups. The person in this role is responsible for being the liaison between YSCS and the MPAA (Metropolitan Philadelphia Athletic Association), offering no more than four and no less than two sports per season (Fall/Spring) for Student Athletes to participate in. The Athletics Coordinator in this role will design a comprehensive athletics program based on student interest, recruit coaches, arrange transportation, facilitate games, secure facilities and work with Grade Team and Content Leadership to ensure all student athletes meet criteria for participation. Responsibilities Safely implement afterschool and after-school programs including: • Gathering students after school and student athletes and implementing an attendance taking process, • Coordinating transportation for all practices and/or games in partnership with the school-based Transportation Lead., • Safely escorting athletes to practices/games, • Coordinating practice and game schedules, including tracking student participation attendance, • Doing eligibility checks and mentoring athletes to maintain high academic standards, • Running the Student/Athlete of the Week program, • Creating charts and visuals to showcase sports and health and wellness initiatives, • Goal setting for ineligible student athletes and follow up meetings, • Attend 2/4 AD meetings this year, • Complete online trainings, • A belief that ALL students should be held to high academic standards;, • Resilience and professionalism;, • Ability to build strong relationships and work with different stakeholders;, • Exceptionally strong strategic thinking;, • Excellent communication both verbal and written;, • Commitment to school transformation and continuous improvement;, • Open to feedback and coaching;, • Strong sense of personal accountability for student achievement;, • An associates degree; Competitive compensation; Professional collaboration with grade and content teams; The opportunity to maximize your impact in schools. Educational Background and Work Experience • Experience driving student achievement results;, • Bachelors degree in Education or a related field;, • Must hold or be actively working to obtain PA teacher certification within the first year of employment, and completed by the second year.
